Aeston

The large town of Aeston is one of the safest settlements in all of the Kingdom of Osland. Its known for its rigorous training grounds and marshaling sites. Its main exports are stone from the quarry residing near the town. In addition to stone, coal is exported as well from one of its many mines sunk around the ridge. The town is ruled by Lord Verion Retaunt who is known as a strict and isloated ruler. Aeston is one of the more reclusive towns that does not partake in the more nautical aspects of the rest of Oslan. Outsiders must be careful however, for citizens of Aeston are very distrusting thanks to Lord Verion's obession with security.

Government

The town is ruled by Lord Verion Retaunt who takes a first hand role in overseeing all taxes, military regiments, adjudication, etc. He is the end all be all of Aeston, unlike most of his sister towns such as Oakdale which tends to run with many hands in the machine. Due to Aeston's secluded geography, it allows itself to run more on how its lord sees fit with little complaint. As long as the coal and stone flows out, there are no problems.

Defences

An Aeston Marshal gathers his men for another round of training.

Aeston is protected by a large regiment of Lord Verion's soldiers. They are considered some of the best of Osland's land forces second only to the Oslan Marines. They have grown accustomed to fighting in rough terrain in the mountains against smaller prey or the remnants of a Mist Storm. Thanks to the abundance of stone, the town is littered with stone defences and walls to protect against any would-be invaders, not that there are many.

Industry & Trade

Laborers sweat as they cut away more and more stone from the quarry.

There is an old saying by Oslan Merchants about Aeston that goes "If a wagon is pulled by two mules and a giant, it comes from Aeston." Aeston's main exports are coal and stone which gives their crates of goods a rather bleak look. If the box is littered with black or grey dust, it more than likely comes from Aeston. Despite the bleak appearance, Aeston supplies a much needed resource to the people of Osland and abroad, though most of the stone and coal remains in Osland for internal use.   In addition to exports, their other trade is in its military training grounds. Soldiers from all around Osland come to Aeston to train in its rough terrain especially the Oslan Marines. Every lord in Osland that seeks to train their soldiers in a difficult environment send them to Aeston, which exacts a heavy fee for using their services. The inns are almost always full in Aeston and there seems to be a new one being built year round.

Infrastructure

A merchant makes the long climb up the Aest Road to deliver goods to market.

Aeston has one road in and one road out. An offshoot of the Gold Road, the Aest Road runs along the Amber Forest up towards Aeston ridge where the pines grow. The road is long and windy as it stretches into the refuge of the Centrem Mountains although the altitude is no where near as high as one would find in Dhandoruhl.

Guilds and Factions

The Roughshods are a prominent mercenary guild made up of Oslan veterans. The guild resides in Aeston but they do business across Osland. Thier chief services are military training. Lord Verion frequently hires their services to train his own troops and lend aid to them for he knows many of their numbers as they were once his own soldiers.    The Amber Bay Trading Co. also has a guildhall in Aeston to oversee their operations, though the hall is small.
