The Sinking of Rheiknor

Disaster / Destruction

1BC

Also known as the Cataclysm. To prevent total destruction from neverending incursions of monsters, the mages of Kevelon sank much of the continent into the sea, seperating the Rim from the Mainland.

For hundreds of years, societies on Rheiknor suffered under the constant attack from monsters. They began arriving as comets in the sky and would crash onto the edge of the world. Over time their numbers multiplied and they started encroaching upon civilized socity towards the center. The varying monsters of the Outlands discovered the more nobler races and began their onslaught. No where was safe from these creatures. The races of men, dwarves, and elves united as one and fought against these evil denizens, but it was not enough. Unbeknownst to their allies, the elves had been working on a nuclear option. A spell that would seperate the Outlands from the Mainland. At the last battle, when all seemed lost, the elves unleashed their final solution. The spell cracked the earth beneath and created a gaping chasm spanning the entire radius of the continent. Within moments, the ground caved in and sank into the sea, creating a vast ocean seperating the Outlands, which then became known as the Rim.   The cataclysm left much destruction in its wake. Although the Outlands were finally shut off from an easy walk into the Mainland, many societies and nations were utterly destroyed. Conveniently, the elven kingdom of Kevelon was left untouched by this destruction. The same could not be said for the rest, except the dwarves. The human nations fell apart and much of their lands sank into the newly created ocean. A great power struggle began known as the War of the Pale. Thousands died trying to claim a safe place within the eroding terrain. After decades of fighting, eventually two nations arose from the ashes. The Kingdom of Osland and the Kingdom of Miscrea.
