Temple of the Shattered Mirror

The Temple of the Shattered Mirror is a temple dedicated to Gorath in their aspect as deity of creativity and melancholy. Any individual may be found here if they have a connection to the Mad Conjurer, or if they seek the deity’s favor -- or disfavor.

Purpose / Function

The Temple of the Shattered Mirror has multiple purposes. Firstly, it serves as housing for members of the Church of Gorath, either permanently or temporary. It also functions as worship space for church members, including laboratory and other workshop areas. Additionally, the Temple performs community outreach by providing meals from their large kitchen.

Architecture

From the outside, the Temple of the Shattered Mirror is a three-story black marble building with a plethora of brilliantly-colored, geometrically-patterned stained glass windows. Behind the temple proper sits a large labyrinth made of pink bougainvillaea bushes, known as the Labyrinth of Memory; within the labyrinth are small areas where urns containing ashes of members of the faith are interred.   The ground floor of the Temple holds the main chapel of the church with a dias and rows of seating for services. The ground floor also contains the church’s large kitchen and dining hall.   The first floor contains the Temple’s library of religious, cooking, and alchemical texts; offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms.   The top floor of the building holds temporary guest quarters for visitors to the Temple, each of which is plain but comfortable, as well as bathing chambers and small living areas for communal use.   The first level of basement contains alchemical laboratories for use by church members, vaults holding relics, finances, and dangerous texts, and general storage.   The second level of basement holds personal chambers for permanent residents of the church, as well as a labyrinth for personal use by the priesthood.

Defenses

The Temple is surrounded by a large wrought-iron fence, topped with a few points of continual flame. In addition, the Temple is home to an array of oozes, which the clerics consider their “pets”, and a handful of golems.

History

The Temple of the Shattered Mirror is one of only four temples to Gorath remaining that was built by dwarven craftsmanship. The Temple has also continuously helped to sponsor the World’s Fair.
