Abbey Theatre

The Abbey Theatre is a red bricked building situated on a corner in the Central Ward. The Theatre is run through donations of patrons, and supports the local arts and theatre productions for the middle and lower class productions. The basement is usually reserved for practice, and constantly has performers working there at all hours. The main stage is booked most weekends for matinees and evening shows, as well as evening shows of various types through the work week. Week days, the stage is used for dress rehearsals and rented out for business presentations.

Purpose / Function

The building acts as a central point for entertainment for the daily lives of many factory workers as well as the middle class of Novandria. Because richer patrons cover the fees of the building owner, most of the admission prices go to the performers, creating a small population of performers and stage-hands that frequent the Theatre. Architecture

The building is a two-story blockhouse with thick walls and windows with gratings on the first floor. The inside is run down, and the seats are small in front of the stage in order to get as many people into seats as possible.

Defenses

There is a large safe that Herr Kodre uses until he can transport his money to his home. Protection for the actors/performers have to be funded by the production that is showing that night, or else there is none.

History

Before Herr Kodre, the property was originally a wood mill. As the city expanded and transportation of materials became more expensive, the original owner went bankrupt. Herr Kodre bought the building at auction, and then used the leftover wood in the building to convert into seats and a stage, beginning his dream of becoming a theatre owner. Little did he know how much he hated performers, or, according to him, he would have converted the building into a private debtor’s prison instead.
