Kidragas

Oh, I wouldn't go up to that house. The drafts from the lake are terrible, 'specially this time of the year, and no one's been in for years. I'd just stay away.
— A villager in Kidragas.
Kidragas is the perfect image of the rubble-filled derelict Gratic village. Barely over a hundred people, the village barely scrapes by through farming and a small mine. But the real reason for the village's neglect lies at its outskirts, where the great manor of the town's Magistrate lies empty.

Falling Apart

Despite its proximity to Lake Lós, Kidragas doesn't make most of its money from fishing. Instead of taking to the lake in boats, most of the villagers spend their time manipulating a group of stone surge gates on the meager river's bank to irrigate failing fields of leafy greens, root vegetables and wheat. Much of the village's buildings aren't doing much better, with the predominantly cobblestone buildings in poor condition and covered in lichens and mold from the humid lake air. The lack of quality healthcare also means that a large number of the village's population are perpetually ill, unable to help alleviate the crushing poverty of their families.

Long-Forgotten

Visitors to Kidragas - exceedingly rare, but not impossible - are often initially confused about the town's poverty. Why hasn't the Magistrate tried to clean the place up? The answer is that the last Magistrate died a dozen years ago and no replacement ever arrived from the capital or Losgate. In fact, a couple of the poorer families of the town are the relations of the servants of the former Magistrate. Despite the Magistrate's death coming after a bout of serious illness, rumours continue to spread that the wood-and-brick mansion is haunted.   Nerdbuilding Data used

    Clinging On

The villagers of Kidragas have no support from the Gratic Empire, so anything that they need to survive has to be sourced in town or bartered with the village of Fishwer a couple of day's travel to the south. The villagers are mostly farmers, mine labourers and a dwindling number of lumberjacks making basic foods and supplies to help keep the village afloat.
