Duchy of Magrae
Demography and Population
There are twenty settlements of note in the Duchy of Magrae: one large town (Magrae), four towns, and fifteen villages with more than a few hundred inhabitants. In 4050 MA, it was estimated that the duchy is populated by around twenty seven thousand thousand people, though the assumptions used by the Queen 's surveyors may be based on pre-Demon War figures.
The vast majority of the duchy's residents are Westrin Humans.
Territories
The Duchy of Magrae is comprised of five counties, each controlled by a Count or Countess.
The County of Magrae is the capital county of the duchy. It is controlled by the Grae family.
The County of Mildale
Military
In times of war, the Duke or Duchess calls upon the Counts and Countesses to gather a requisite number of soldiers. Each village is generally expected to provide one hundred foot soldiers or ten light cavalry; each town is expected to provide two hundred fifty foot soldiers, fifty light cavalry, or twelve Knights and at least one magic user; and Magrae is expected to provide five hundred foot soldiers, fifty light cavalry, twelve Knights, and at least one spellcaster.
If all the settlements were to provide only the minimum number of foot soldiers, the duchy would have a force of four thousand five hundred foot soldiers, fifty light cavalry, twelve Knights, and one spellcaster.
There is also a standing force of soldiers in Mildale from across the Western Coalition. Each nation provides five hundred soldiers, a total of four thousand, which is as large or larger than the civilian population of Mildale. This army is officially neutral, but tensions between various contingents sometimes boil over into brawls.
