Duchy of Dao
The Duchy of Dao has been ruled by the Yuon family since the founding of Youk Kingdom. In the year 4050 MA, that is Jordyn Yuon. Although the smallest of the six duchies, it holds a population similar to that of the Royal Duchy, which is the largest. Under Jordyn's leadership, the Duchy of Dao avoided the larger part of the damage of the Demon War, largely from an early evacuation along the coast to the forests of the Timmarin Tail.
History
The Duchy of Dao is named for an ancient dwarven nation ruled by a monarch called the Daok (thought to be the origin of the term Duke). Dao encompassed all the lands surrounding the Dao Mountains.
Demography and Population
There are thirty-five settlements of note in the Duchy of Dao: one city (Yuondao), four towns, and thirty villages with more than a few hundred inhabitants. In 4050 MA, it was estimated that the duchy is populated by around thirty-five thousand people, though the assumptions used by the Queen's surveyors may be based on pre-Demon War figures.
The vast majority of the duchy's residents are Westrin Humans.
Territories
The Duchy of Dao is divided into five counties, each controlled by a Count or Countess.
Yuondao County is the capital county of the duchy and is controlled by the Yuon Family. It contains the duchy's only city (Yuondao), though, after the Demon War, it is not much larger than a town. The Caenar family are the ancestral Barons of the village southeast of Yuondao, named Caenarby, with the current Baroness being Quori Caenar.

Military
In times of war, the Duke or Duchess calls upon the Counts and Countesses to gather a requisite number of soldiers. Each village is generally expected to provide one hundred foot soldiers or ten light cavalry; each town is expected to provide two hundred fifty foot soldiers, fifty light cavalry, or twelve Knights and at least one magic user; and Yuondao is expected to provide seven hundred fifty foot soldiers, one hundred light cavalry, twenty-five Knights, and at least one spellcaster.
If all the settlements were to provide only the minimum number of foot soldiers, the duchy would have a force of four thousand seven hundred fifty foot soldiers, one hundred light cavalry, twenty-five Knights, and a spellcaster.
