Ambergulch

A large village in the foothills of the Setting Ridge, just off of the Nu-Zan Valleyway. The bulk of the village is about 20 minutes from the eponymous gulch, with a cluster of small farms between them.

Demographics

As a result of the village's relative proximity to the strange amphitheater deep in the woods to the south, Ambergulch's population has an unusually high population of fae-descended peoples.

Defences

The village has traditionally had a standing guard force of 40, but has been recruiting more in recent months due to increased aggression from the Stoneclaw Tribe. The guard force is currently about 90 strong. The ruling family's manor is protected by its own contingent of 26: 18 work the walls on 8 hour shifts, and the Ladies have 4 personal guards each working on 12 hour rotations.   Additionally, the guards are supplemented by a pack of trained dire wolves. The force has a limited number of dedicated handlers for them, and the wolves wear specially crafted leather armor to protect their torsos without hindering their mobility and stealth. Some of the wolves and their handlers are tasked with keeping the surrounding area clear of hostile creatures, and maintaining watch for Stoneclaw incursions.

Industry & Trade

The village is famous as the largest source of amber in all of Trast, as well as for their locally brewed mead and agave liquor.

History

Founded in 424 P.I.C. when the Kav family and other settlers happened upon the area and discovered the rich deposit of amber to be mined.

Architecture

Most buildings are a redish adobe. The roofs are shingled with slate, and the roads are adorned with pieces of the local amber.

Geography

Located in the clearing of an ancient petrified forest, just east of a deep gulch which houses a stream of clean water flowing down from the Setting Ridge mountains. The area is fairly hilly.
