Bal'Marin

The Bal'Marin scrapyards is technically a planet sized landfill, that has since taken up a large population of scrappers and foragers seeking to make it rich. Every day, waste products from the Core Systems and the Colonial Earth Empire find their way out to the Bal'Marin trash peaks, and there are many who see this as oppurtunity. The Empire maintains a relatively small presence here, mainly to keep away the rebel groups and militants from taking action here. However, the scrapper boss companies are rumored to have cut a deal with the organized crime groups, and supposedly work at their behest. This has become a salvaging center for all manner of space tech and Plasteel harvesting. Many a smuggler in the Outer Rim is piloting a salvaged and rebuilt ship with parts gathered from Bal'Marin. There are few nobles here, and the Imperial Governor spends most of his time away from Bal'Marin. He instead spends his times enjoying the comforts New Babylon has to offer from his palace there.

Spider Rigs

The atmosphere of Bal'Marin is hostile. Centuries of pollution and ecological abuse have left the planet as desolate and unlivable as Earth. However, unlike Earth, Bal'Marin is full of profitable salvage that has some value. Salvage crews ride huge Spider Rigs to collect this salvage. Spider Rigs are mass mobile platforms capable of tearing apart battleships, breaking down metal, and all the while being able to store tons of goods. Crews spend months at a time on board these rigs, working far from the atmo-controlled ports and settlements. Spider Rigs can support up to about 20 members at a time, and they comb the wasteland looking for anything of value. Most of these workers get paid very little, but on a planet with almost 0 economic oppurtunity, it has become the backbone of the Bal'Marin economy. There is a robust black market that takes place between the spider rigs and various less than legal organizations like the Hydra Syndicate or even the Rebel Fleet. It's rumored that a handful of the Fleet was even constructed from the parts smuggled off of the Bal'Marin.
