Dral

Dral is a resource poor and extremely dangerous world in the Mid Rim. Located right in between at the edge of the influence of the the Commonwealth, Dral is a mostly lawless land. It was once an an outer territory of the Republican Remnant, who thought that the planet was resource rich in Plasteel. However, the plasteel was not as bountiful as the first few mines, and the plasteel that was mined here was flimsier and poorer quality than was needed. The contracts dried up, and the once booming mining towns of Dral have dried up. They lost their republican charter, which led to the pullout of a majority of Republican security forces.   The workers were left behind, forced to pickup the scraps of the Republic's mess. The Bogoda Clans and the Hydra Syndicate moved in to fill the vaccum of power. Republic Rangers are outgunned and out funded, only aided by a small contingent of Be'Teu Order. The planet has become a smuggler's haven, a key stop for those on the Musuran Line.   The planet is split into almost two distinct populations, the settlers and the outlanders.   Outlanders live across the planet, nestled around massive underground wells that are formed naturally in the mountainous regions of the planets. They hide deep beneath the heat of the surface, where the water is collected from the atmosphere at the peaks and fed down into these cavern networks. They supposedly lived on the planet long before the mining companies showed up, and claim they will be there long after the criminal empires leave as well. They form matriarchal communities, consuming spice regularly, and influenced by tradition steeped in the beliefs of asceticism.   Settlers make up a vast majority of the population, and live along the singular river on the planet's surface. These cities and towns are managed almost entirely by various Bogoda Daiymos and Hydra bosses. There are still small mining operations that take place on the planet, looking for the ever illusive Plasteel. Many are the workers that were left behind when the Republic pulled the charter. Most are just scraping by, squezed between criminal warlords and an ever more aggressive occupation by rangers.     The Pacifica Liberation Front has begun to operate on Dral, preying on the deteriorating relationships between the outlanders and the settlers, and pitting the Clans and Syndicates against one another.

Ecosystem

The planet is hot and arid, and less than 1% of the surface consists of water. Massive dunes and mountain ranges cover the surface. Only the portion around the Great River, in the northern hemisphere of the planet is considered hospitable by most settlers. The only other water exists hidden below the mountains in great basins that are the size of seas.    Water is collected through a complex natural phenomenon of how the peaks of the mountains capture moisture from the atmosphere and drip feed it into the basins. This has led to a blossoming population of rare fauna, including Spice. These networks are difficult to navigate, though the outlanders have generations of tradition to guide them.    Massive dragons hunt the sand dunes, nesting just beneath the surface. Mining vessels that float over the sand, looking for ore veins, run the risk of attracting dragon attacks. Smaller insects and mammals call the planet home, though they mostly live alongside the Great River.
