Materia 45: "The Great Game"
General Summary
Fredrika makes Mari an offer to buy time in the Nine Hells in exchange for the position of Master Sorcerer on her Lord's Council. In Seito, the party is brought before the Shou Royal Council, and tasked with touring their new lands of Kamuishi and Kunigawa. At Ai's behest, agreements are made to begin the tour in Touchu. While readying themselves, the party socializes with Ai, and Mari reaffirms her commitment to Jun, and asks him to be her Spymaster.
The party arrives in Touchu for dinner and is confronted with the growing internal strife in the Nishikawa Dynasty as Masuda tells of Hidehito and Yagi's struggle for control over the family, and of his mother, Junko, who refuses her nephew Kazuyuki's demands for peace. After some arguing with Ogino, who is deadset on Yagi's righteousness, the party leaves and boards a barge, ready to begin their tour of Hokutani. Aboard, Hanzo advises Mari on matters of council, and demands Hanako abide by his appointees; Licina tells Yvri of Kazuyuki's growing interest in leaving the Shou Empire to find the long-lost Ohta Anzai.
