The Dragonpeaks

The Dragonpeaks are a large mountain range that cuts across a wide section of western Obseron. The mountains are very tall, with some peaks as high as 20,000 feet, but are also defined by the deep valleys that cut through much of their southern reaches. The lower elevations are heavily forested, except on the dryer southern slopes near the Bularian Plain and The Rift, while the higher elevations tend to have smaller and sparser trees surrounded by grass and bushes, with many of the highest peaks covered in snow year round.   The deeper valleys of the Dragonpeaks are often warm in the summer, and many have a relatively thick population of humans. Some of these valleys formed the cradle of the Aurean Empire, whose original capital, Terminus, as well as the provinces of The Rise, High Rift, Hektanpolis, and Caltheria are all located in the Dragonpeaks. The Kingdom of Eutoria, formerly part of the empire before the fall of the The Southern Passes, is located partially in the far south of the mountains.   In addition to humans, the Dragonpeaks have a large population of orcs who live mostly in the higher portions of the mountains, though many now dwell within the Southern Passes as well. Relations between the orcs and humans within the mountains can vary from tolerant to extremally violent, and due the disparate nature of the orcs differs heavily between different areas at any given time. The mountains are also home to a number of dwarf cities, along with large population of goblinoids, ogres, giants, and many other races.   The Dragonpeaks are best known, however, for their large population of dragons. The dragon population here is unusually thick, with metallic dragons in particular likely more prevalent then in any other region of Obseron, and it is not unheard of for dragons to be seen flying overhead throughout the region. However, the dragons tend to keep to themselves, and direct interactions with dragons are very rare.
