Hektanpolis

Hektanpolis is the capital of the Aurean province of Hektanpolis Province, located in the widest portion of a pass through The Dragonpeaks. Built next to a small lake, with views of mountains on all sides, it is often considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the empire. Their is a very large military presence, due its close proximity to the The Southern Passes.   The city was one of the few in the empire to grow during the collapse, having been flooded with refugees during the fall of the southern passes. The city expanded greatly in area as well, and to the west of the Old City a new portion — known as the New City — has now been surrounded by an expanded set of walls. A taller set of walls surrounds a small hill to the north, which locals simply call The Hill, and includes the lords castle and the dwellings of the nobility and imperial administrators.   The Old City is built predominantly of stone, and many of it's buildings are very ancient. It is somewhat wealthier then the New City, though not truly wealthy in it's own right, and among others houses most of the cities skilled craftspeople, the majority of it's temples, and a university. Buildings in the New City are mostly built of wood, and though by area it is almost the size of the Old City, it's walls are largely asperational, and it large empty spaces cover much of it, which include many vegetable gardens and pens for livestock.

Demographics

The cities population is overwhelmingly human, though a great number of dwarves reside there, mostly refugees from the southern passes and their decendents. Orcs are largely unwelcome here, as fighting continues nearby in the southern passes, and half-orcs are relatively rare.
