Calendar of Palimpsest

In the city of Palimpsest, the current calendar year is given on official documents as The Year of Our Amira 1313, although no-one seems to be sure what exactly that number is counting from.   The days and months of the year follow the path of the Wandering Moon as she travels across the sky. The months are directly named after the Eight sanctioned human deities, and the eight days also follow the pattern of the Eight. Every two months, the Wandering Moon passes across Salsabil creating a "Cone of Shadow" over Palimpsest. These "Eclipsedays" are extra leap days, outside the calendar months.

Holidays of the Eight

The churches for each of the sanctioned deities celebrate their holy day on the day and month that corresponds to their respective deities. Followers find that their power is greatest on their chosen deity's holy day, and enhanced slightly on their deity's day of the other seven months.

Holidays of the Survivor Stars

Each of the illicit survivor religions celebrate their holidays twice a year, whenever the Wandering Moon is closest to their stars. These celebrations last two days each time they come round, and although the Survivor Stars are religiously connected in any way, the middle two days of each human month (i.e. Mapday & Goldday) happen to correspond to the celebrations of two of the survivor holidays.

-- Subvizier Pollux Stargazer.

"These are important aspects of diplomacy, so I have learned to focus on such details. I confess these days I rather rely on Connie to keep track of the birthdays, but I still set aside time to study the Peerage each morning, especially if I'm expected to attend court."
-- Katib Hugo Dargent.
"Of course, it’s not that hard."
-- Katiba Scarlett Dargent.

"I don’t even remember my own birthday and pet’s name and stuff."
-- Lindie Asklepa.
"Birthdays are a good indicator of who you're dealing with. When I was little, I made birthday star maps for the people in the warren as presents. Now, whenever I find out a person's birthday, I create them a star chart in my journal. Master Hugo's got a whole book of noble birthdays, and I use that to help me navigate the court better. Nobles aren't generally very good at introducing themselves back, so there's quite a few who I know the birthday of but don't know their name. The pets are generally friendlier - a lot of them are actually animalfolk, like me - so I do tend to remember their names."
-- Connie Furr.
"No. At least not their names as you would know them."
-- Voltaire.
Carterholds
"Don’t have to be any more, but old habits die hard."
-- Katiba Rouge Carterhold.

-- Vizier Cobbler Bakerstreet.
"...[nod]..."
-- Subviziera Diana Bakerstreet-Underhand.
"Sure, I just don’t care."
-- Katib Cody Bakerstreet.
"You never know what might be pertinent to the case. I note everything down."
-- Katiba Wiggin Bakerstreet.
Underhands
"...[nod]..."
-- Katiba Diana Bakerstreet-Underhand.

Baharats
"Certainly I am."
-- Ex-Subvizier James Baharat.

"Not very easily, but I keep notes for myself to make sure they stick."
-- Beautiful Baharat Guard.
"I don’t often tend to learn them, to be honest. But sometimes I get them from a volunteer for a trick, and then I remember them at least until the show’s over."
-- Martini.
Brasseyes
"No."
-- Katiba Grimoire Brasseyes.
Darktusks
"No. Easier ways to get what I want."
-- Mirze Rifi Darktusk.
Greenskins
"I am."
-- Vizier Kronk Greenskin.
"I have so much to remember, that doesn’t tend to make the list."
-- Subvizier Cassiopeia Stargazer-Greenskin.

-- Vizier Hali Shajara.
"Oh no, I have many more interesting things to learn instead!"
-- Viziera Cassilda Shajara.
Brambleites
"Alas, nay, but I shall commit myself to the task if required!"
-- Bugsby Cottontail.

"In this form, why would I need to?"
-- Vulpix.
"Pet’s names?! I don’t even remember my kids' names! We thought it would be easy to follow the bunbun tradition of giving them all names that rhymed. But now we’re running out of names, and I can’t tell one kid apart from another. It’s a bit overwhelming to be honest."
-- Warren Furr.
"I have over a dozen children to keep track of and my job keeps me occupied away from the home. My children are good at keeping me right with such things. And I don’t expect anyone else would really care if I forgot their… pet’s name."
-- Winnie Furr.
Patchwork Empire
"I can be, but I don’t tend to do so without purpose. I’ll remember the information that might hurt them, and the information that will help deceive. I don’t care about the rest of your life."
