Day 19

by Ralsei Dreemurr

I woke up later in the day and talked to everyone on board the ship for a while to get to know them. I also went to Noelle and Bloodbark and asked them what they thought about what was going on. To my shock, Bloodbark had no idea that we were hunting a dragon. All he knew was that "Master was right, and that he would be a good boy". I reassured Bloodbark that we could beat the dragon together, and that he was indeed a good boy, and I petted him a bit.

However, when I came to talk to Noelle, she seemed concerned, and told me that maybe it was not the best idea to join me on the trip, because of all that had happened. I agreed that it was unfortunate that her safety had to be put in jeopardy because of me. She then brought up the possibility of just headed back to our home, and to let the others handle things on their own. To be honest, I thought about it for a bit. I really did not want Noelle getting hurt. My own safely, I could care less about. But since she was involved, it made me think. I eventually decided that we should keep going, not only because the others would need my healing, judging by their track record so far, but also because the dragon would surely come for us eventually, and if we didn't stop it now, we would not be able to escape from it in the future.

After the serious conversations, I decided to have a lighthearted time singing a sea shanty with Grin and Jyrone. It was quite uncoordinated, but nevertheless, it was fun.

After checking on Alfred, who was still not doing well from being bitten by Jonathan, we stepped off the boat, and headed straight towards the capital. Once we arrived, we were greeted by a whole legion of guards, that ushered us into the city. As we reached the palace of the king, the regular guards were replaced by royal guards, and they led us along the rest of the way, until we reached the throne room, and met the king himself. The first thing I noticed about the king was that he was kind-hearted, I could tell just by how his expression was. This was a great relief to know, since I had heard in many stories that royalty were often cruel. But then, King Edmond III brought out a marble table, and began discussing plans to slay the dragon, Mammon. I was greatly displeased with the thought, but I kept quiet until the very end. When I voiced my concern, the king looked right at me, and said that I must have the courage to do the evilest thing I have ever done, to do the best thing I could ever do. I nodded in understanding. And strangely, everyone seemed to treat me as if this was the first time that I had needed to fight instead of being a pacifist...
But they don't know that I learned that lesson a long time ago, back when I had just woken up with my lost memory. My naivety almost killed me, but thankfully I realized in time that fighting is sometimes necessary against those too wicked to redeem via kindness. But that story is for another day...
After we had finished talking with the king, we were teleported to where Mammon was, using a masterpiece of magic and technology fused together. However, Jyrone's captain was injured during the teleportation, and his arm was grotesquely stretched out to almost nothing. And unfortunately, the sight bothered me so much that I was unable to attempt to heal him. And sadly, this injury seemed fatal. The captain called Jyrone over, promoted him to Captain, and passed away. Jyrone quickly set up a quick funeral burning for the captain, and after, we all prepared to begin combat with Mammon. We met with our allies the king had provided us, and once we spotted Mammon, Red fired his weapon at Mammon and knocked a scale loose. Then, the samurai group that were allied with us charged. I offered my hand to Noelle, to invite her to join me in the charge. She took it, and we ran toward Mammon together, along with the rest of the group.

But to our surprise, Mammon was not alone. He had brought a whole squad of his own members to attack us. The rackoon blinded me right as we all engaged in fighting, and the bloodshed began. Being blinded, all I could do was sing an inspirational song. Thankfully, it seemed that Ezra and Noelle benefited greatly from the song, since I heard Ezra defeat two enemies. However, when the darkness cleared, I saw a massive oni brute in front of me, preparing to swing his club down. Noelle somehow had reached my side and put herself in front of me. I quickly stepped in front of her, seeing that her spell that she attempted to cast failed her, and was ready to pacify the oni as soon as it hit my magic shield. But when I cast my spell, I realized that the brute was only an illusion, and that Ezra had already killed this enemy. As the fighting continued, I made sure to heal every ally that I could, and swiftly disarmed any enemies within sight. Unfortunately for an oni mage nearby, he was the main target of most of my disarming. He glared at me beneath his mask, and I just winked, knowing that I had caught them off guard. Ezra, Grin, and the samurai allies made short work of the enemies near them, and soon it was just our allies, and Mammon. Sadly, some of our allies had perished, but none of our members had died so far.

Eve, one of our allies that happened to be a bard, pointed out a weakness on Mammon, which was a seal on his chest from his patron. There was only one way we could reach it. I shapeshifted into a Night Fury dragon, and told everyone to hop on. Eve, Grin, and Jyrone hopped on my back, and I took off, headed straight towards Mammon. However, Mammon was prepared, and used magic hands to trap me in mid-air. But Grin, with his werewolf form, easily threw Eve, and she stabbed Mammon with stunning accuracy. I made sure to deal the final blow by shooting a ball of plasma into Mammon's mouth before he could breathe fire. Mammon exploded, and crashed down towards the ground, almost taking me down with him. Thankfully, I swiftly extended my wings, caught Eve, and touched down to the ground, with everyone safe aboard.
As the dragon exploded, we all saw a body slowly falling to the ground. It was Mammon, as we had first saw him, but without his mask. He weakly looked at us, and smiled in peace. He thanked us, and closed his eyes one final time, but willingly, he left this world. Before I could bring him back, Eve cast a spell on her lute to melt his body, so that there was no way to revive Mammon.

I felt something calling to me, so I headed over to where I felt the call. In the center of where Mammon was, I saw a mound of items. I grabbed some mudwalker boots, and I dug deeper through the pile, and found the item that was calling me. In my hands, I held a precious jewel called the Dragon's Heart. I put it away and returned to the others. Just as everyone had grabbed the items from the pile, we heard a voice calling us to come back to the castle. We all went into the familiar mist that brought us here, and we teleported to the castle, only to find it engulfed in flames, and under siege. Someone shot three arrows at Maze, but thankfully my shield was in the way, and protected Maze completely.
Then, we saw a human with giant black wings arrive, and landed in front of us...
