Dwarves

Kingdoms rich in ancient grandeur, halls carved into the roots of mountains, the echoing of picks and hammers in deep mines and blazing forges, a commitment to clan and tradition, and a burning hatred of goblins and orcs—these common threads unite all dwarves.

Dwarves in Alemi

Counting Dwarves is challenging: whatever numbers appear in the census, it should be assumed that roughly that same amount live in a vast network of underground cities beneath the Vanahrut Mountains and, to a lesser degree, the Zewedi Mountains. That ratio would take the Dwarven population of Mizra'aki from the over 1,300,000 of the census to closer to 3,000,000 in totality.   Many Dwarves in Alemi are settled and fully engaged in community life, although they are more rare outside of mountainous, or at least very hilly, territory. In general, as the elevation increases, the number of Dwarves in a community will increase. Of the 10 settlements with the highest altitude, none have fewer than 8% recorded Dwarven population, and Myterladi in Kylle, at just under 4,000ft, is roughly 1/4 Dwarven.   Dwarves tend to have their highest populations in small towns, as related families will settle after a few generations. While many of these are mining towns (most notably Kizi in Glyppe, Agagarda in Kytosia, and Linhethyr in Nyria), many of them can be considered more "accidental" Dwarven communities.   As usual, Ylleneaor has the highest number of Dwarves, but the Kytosian capital has a very standard population by percantage, at 5% of the total population. Gysse in Thasia and Bath in Kema are the major cities with the highest Dwarven population by percentage.   While some claim that Trot is one of the greatest metropolii in Mizra'aki, the absence of Dwarves (who make up barely 1% of the population), is an argument against that claim. Many villages, especially at low elevations, have under 2% of their official population as Dwarves, but it is unclear--especially outside of Slovan nations--if this is a product of Dwarven choice or prejudice (or, even, Dwarven prejudice).   See The Wars of the Small for some detail explaining the animosity between Gnomes and Dwarves in the areas south of Lake Sanniyati. This conflcit involved both Forest Gnome and Rock Gnome tribes.

Racial Overview

Dwarf

Bold and hardy, dwarves are known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, dwarves are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human standing nearly two feet taller. Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any of the larger folk.
