Viterbo
Viterbo is a dusty crossroads between the various cities in the Region of Straatos. It was originally notable for its temple to Chauntea, The Great Mother. The site draws farmers from the region who offer a portion of their crops to the goddess of agriculture. Viterbo is also known for the handful of wealthy merchants who took their spoils and have decided into the countryside, building large walled manses and mini-compounds stocked full of art and other valuables.
Many of these various wealthy merchants have also used their considerable resources to start a wine boom in the recent months. Growing all manner of grapes and leading to seasonal celebrations throughout the town related to the growing and processing of these bottles. The amount of wine and festivals in the city have turned Viterbo into a bit of a party town for tourists looking for a cheap holiday. The wine boom has also lead to some friendly competition between the different wineries and growers in Viterbo, each trying to outdo the others with weird and interesting concoctions. They have also begun to sponsor two rivaling sports teams, which has lead to the citizenry siding with one or the other to an extent.
Government
The village is mostly overseen by Mayor Nuala Gildove, a wood elf who has held the title for the past 40 years. Despite attempts to buy out or bribe her, she has remain steadfast and loyal to the common folk that make up the majority of Viterbo. Nuala still answers to The Twelve in Straatos, but they mostly leave the small town to its own devices.
That is not to say that the wealthy families and merchants have no sway over the city, as they have of late shifted the economy. Although many try to pander to the wishes of Nuala, should they lose their permission to grow on these lands.
Guilds and Factions
There are a handful of powerful merchants and growers within the city of Viterbo, but most belong to one of two guilds. These include Vine's Bounty Guild and the Golden Seed Guild. While there is some rivalry between them, most of hit has stayed "above the belt" so to speak. Although the haughty young sons and daughters of these guilds might come to threaten this precarious balance.
Geography
Nestled in a series of gentle hills, Viterbo is a somewhat spread out town. Most people like their space here, and so homesteads are given plenty of room from one another. On the main thoroughfare, in the center of town there lies a handful of inns, and wine halls. These inns are usually owned and operated by the various different wineries in the nearby countryside, and is known as the Crossroads.
Most of the citizen live off in their own small abodes outside of the Crossroads. Most manage meager farms and have a handful of livestock. They are a simple folk with simple pleasures, and have been happy for the influx of money into their community, even if it is louder.
