Groc Peaks
For almost as long ago as is known, the dwarves have lived in these mountains calling them home. Carving out excessively large caverns and filling them with ornate decoration, mesmerising pillars of stone, enormous halls to house their needs, the underbelly of the Groc Peaks are a work of art.
Not forgetting the land on the surface, the peaks span many miles east to west, connected with twisting pathways, tunnels and cave networks, intertwined with rivers and waterfalls throughout. Most mountains averaging a height of between 600ft and 700ft at their tallest points. Plant life litters the landscape both over ground and under to help form a maze of true beauty and danger. While the land beneath the mountains is well tunnelled and traversed, the mountain tops and surrounding rock largely goes unexplored, the rocks have no valuable materials in them so serve little importance to the dwarven people.
Moving back to the underground town, deeper into the planets core where the precious metals and materials can be found, countless mines spiral down into the dirt to harvest them. Many of these metals you'll see decorating the structures in town, from the floors, walls and ceilings to the supports holding everything up, the lighting systems and even the riverbeds. Large stone halls built from ground to ceiling, giving secure space for the living quarters and trading areas. The council chambers and surrounding land can be found directly in the center of all of this, surrounded with fine marble walls and pathways.
There are only two main routes in and out of the mountains one on the western side and one to the east. The western route leads directly down into the main settlement while the eastern route winds a series of pathways and tunnels through the peaks to come out by the river behind the town. Travel on the longer path is uncommon purely because of the time taken to navigate the winding roads.
Drawing in tourism for many reasons, the works of art beneath the surface, the untouched lands atop the mountains, the incredible waterfalls on either side of the range and the rare and destructive power of black powder used for mining excavations. There is always an interesting mix of people floating around the mountains, it is not uncommon for thieves to try and steal the explosive powders of the dwarves or their stockpiles of valuable materials in the vaults. The guard dealing with such activities is a more common sight than you'd care to think and they are forever vigilant and alert.
