Maku Keno
The oldest texts found depicting the old fiery mountain in the Groc Peaks refer to it as Makennu, the home of an ancient mighty dragon made of the hottest, brightest flames ever known. Over the years with changing dialects and languages, the modern-day dwarves call it Maku Keno translating loosely as 'big fire'. It has been a very long time since a dragon has taken residence in the volcano, small eruptions occur from time to time but they are mostly harmless with the surrounding land largely void of life.
Standing slightly smaller than most of the other mountains around it at only 470ft high, the volcano is incredibly steep to climb and the surface is forever changing with the many eruptions and lava rivers. The summit overlooks the incredible pools of churning lava and rocks below, numerous naturally created passageways lead down or through the volcanic rock to caverns once filled with lava.
The dwarves have set up a forge in the lower sections of the volcano, using the powerful lava as a tool in their creations. Dwarven steel forged in this way is much stronger than the regular stuff and generally lasts almost twice as long before needing repair. Many smiths come here to try and forge their own superior equipment, those practicing the ways of arcana are also drawn to elemental power of the volcano. Nearly all those calling the volcano their home are the ones working in the forges night and day, the only 'safe' location around for miles. Several defenses are in place protecting the forge from the fiery dangers the mountain presents.
When particularly large eruptions occur, the sheer elemental force is sometimes known to tear into the plane of fire, sometimes bringing forth beasts of flame from within. The dwarves have a specialized force tasked in dealing with any elemental hostile activities (The CinderGuard), equipped with magical weapons and armor to give the advantage in battle.
