Torrow
An early strategic naval location built by some gnomes and halflings with assistance from the dragonborn. Working together they managed to create a successful, bustling port town, using their trade secrets to manufacture high quality ships.
The year 2769 brought with it a dramatic turn of events concerning the town of Torrow. A group of bandits and pirates led by the infamous Gorvak The Bad executed an attack of massive scale on the port. Infiltrating the town, a series of large explosions were heard and on this signal the ships in the harbour were hijacked and they fired upon the coastline to eliminate the sea defences and guard buildings, the workshops filled with lumber were set ablaze and bandits flooded in from all directions laying waste to the town. This took a matter of minutes and the town was in ruin, after suffering heavy losses the remaining townsfolk fled to safety leaving Torrow under bandit rule.
Just over 300 years later brings us to modern day, Torrow is very much still under bandit control with most of the town rebuilt and reformed into the one known today. To ensure history doesn't repeat itself, the port is heavily defended and secured. There are three tiers of cannon rows on the coastline, bolt throwers and ballistas along the dock and jetties, high wooden walls with spiked tops, towering guard towers scattered around the perimeter and many defensive ships in the water, prepped to attack at a moments notice.
There is no law here, there is no guard but instead all of the residents are well armed and trained, weapons are as common as tankards. Little to no information is known about any leadership structures and information learned is often rendered obsolete with the ever changing nature of the town.
While it is indeed dangerous, anyone is free to come and go as they please. Those coming to spend gold here or benefit the town in some way are welcomed. Often enticed by the wares offered unavailable anywhere else, a wide range of contraband, customised weapons, priceless artifacts and miscellaneous stolen property attracts a unique audience but an audience with gold!
