Faeywild

Hidden away in the south-east of Magarin the Faeywild is both real and false. The forest is an enormous stretch of woodlands full of mocking whispers and laughter that seems ever out of sight, it is said that if you try to chop down a tree your axe becomes soft and weak and if you try to spend the night you awaken far from your campsite. In truth all of this is due to the manipulation of the Faey that exist in the Faeywild that occupies a parallel plane to the forest that can be crossed as easy as opening a door to those who know how.

Geography

Ecosystem

The Faeywild is divided into four 'seasons' each of which flows with the wills and ideals of its people. Autumn is coarse and cold when its people are sad and tired but it is vibrant and beautiful when they are cheerful and joyous. The snow of winter is playful and soft when happiness fills the season but turns icy and melted when anger and fear is gripped.    The population tend to follow these seasonal shifts with the Eladrin elves changing their entire physiology to suit the climate. The animals shift accordingly turning scales to fur as they change seasons. For visitors these are incredible things to witness defying the nature of reality but for the faey who have been born and raised here it would be absurd to do anything else.

Localized Phenomena

The powerful magic that is interwoven with the Faeywild allows for its residents to quickly master spellcraft. It's impact on the natural landscape means that spells can also have some unpredictable effects. Perhaps the most famed product of the faeywild is the Portal Stones that are treasured throughout the realm of balance.

History

The Faeywild pays little attention to what occurs outside despite the tendency of its residents to shift across Aesalia to pull pranks and teach lessons to those desperate, and foolish, enough to make bargains of them. There does however remain conflict within the faeywild as rivalries and contests emerge and even wars can break between the seasons, not for land or spoils, but for purposes of justice and proving a point. These wars can be as brutal as any contest beyond the wilds and have on occasion resulted in the deposition of Archfaey and the rise of new power dynamics within the Seelie Court that governs the wilds.   The most notable of these conflicts came in the War of Spring and Winter where a coven of Hags conspired to start a war across the wilds to help ascend the Baba Yaga to the Throne of Queen of the Four Seasons. Unfortunately for the Hags  there treason was discovered by a Faey named Alacorn who rallied the courts of Spring and Winter to defeat the Hag infestation and restore order to the land. In the battle the Lord of the Winter Court was slain by the forces, that later became known as the Unseelie Court, leaving the position open. As thanks for his service Alacorn was given the position where he has become a powerful figure in the wilds.   The Baba Yaga was however never formally connected to the conspiracy but for their intention to ascend her and so the mother of witches was allowed to continue her life free of consequence. This has led some to question whether the 'Unseelie Court' still exists in the secrets of the Faeywild waiting for another moment to strike.   Politics   The FaeywildFaeywild is ruled from the Palace of Dreams wherein is the Throne of the Queen of the Four Seasons. It is here that Queen Titania of the Four Seasons rules as the supreme Faey over the wilds. Her rule has been a peaceful and long one where Faey have generally thrived and found new powerful ways to spread across the land. In recent years Faey have even begun to settle beyond with Satyr and Eladrin Elf growing in recognition throughout the assorted lands of the Mer .   Each of the seasonal domains also has its own rulers in the Lords of the Winter, Summer, Spring and Autumn Court who govern the affairs of their own and give tribute to the Queen of the Four Seasons. Tributes rarely take the simple for of money and are instead often a more exciting offering such as poetry, dance, new delicacies or wisdom from the land of the Mer or the conclusion of a particularly amusing ruse that has been played against the outside folk.
