South Market
"If you value your social status, it would be best to not spend undue time in this area. The entire district is rife with pickpockets and dirty beggars, and this square is no different. What wares that are sold by stalls and shops in this area are not to be trusted, and the local people are very quick to steal and attack passerby." ~ The City of Cities
Purpose / Function
This area was originally built as a way of providing a way out of the poverty that plagues this district, but it ended up becoming a large flat area with very few shops at all. What stalls there are sell rusted tools, slightly spoiled food and drink, and very few interesting items.
Alterations
There have been many attempts to fill the area with more high-end shops and local merchants, but all of these have led to some violence from those who don't enjoy change.
Architecture
The square was once well made, but centuries of wear and tear have created potholes that fill with water when it rains, as well as jagged cobblestones that wreck shoes and rip trailing garments. The Ring Road goes from the northwest and the southeast corners of the plaza, and The Grand Arena of Ilmius I towers over the north end of the square.
History
The square was the pet project of the second son of Jonitan I, but he never completed it and it was left to decay.
