Temple Square

"Temple Square is truly the beating heart of the city; it is here that the elite gather and mingle with the lower classes. This plaza is dominated by the grand edifice of the Gratic City Temple of Etheric, whose glittering spire shines across the plaza. At the centre of the square is a large statued fountain that dates from the early days of the city, which has been lovingly repainted and rebuilt over the centuries. Of note is that the main thoroughfare to The Grand Castle connects to this square and that the crier for the town makes his rounds in this square."   ~ The City of Cities

Purpose / Function

This area is meant as a large open area for the mingling of the higher class people of the city. There are very few shops around the plaza, and the square itself is barren of them. It has instead been given over to groups of people looking for news and meeting friends. A rare event may take place here as well from time to time.

Architecture

The square is paved with low-quality Plainér Marble, giving the ground a look reminiscent of dirty white tiles. A large fountain takes up a significant section of the inside of this area, and it is a painted depiction of a pair of Gratic soldiers fighting off some demonic menace.

History

It was originally cleared by the first Emperor himself for the construction of a plaza, and it became the first market square of the quickly growing capital. Once the Ither Market and Teris Market opened, the place became a shopless area, with stores and stalls moved into the nearby streets. Because of this, it became a place to meet people and hear the local news from the town crier.
