The Dirty Duck Tavern

"I've heard that the Dirty Duck has cards that date from the founding of the Empire!"   "The drink sucks and I wouldn't touch the food there with a five-foot long stick."   "I've heard they call it that because there are these disembodied duck heads all over the place."   "As if I would ever be caught in the Southwark at such a place!"   ~Various rumours and remarks about the Dirty Duck

Purpose / Function

This pub is just a place to get well and truly drunk. The food stinks and the drink is cheap, and for the labourers that crowd the Southwark District, that makes it a destination. Not a room in the place is for rent, unlike many other taverns and inns in the city.

Architecture

The building looks like it may be abandoned at first glance due to the rundown and boarded-up nature of the place. The windows are covered up and only the slightest bit of light shines from inside on a dark night. The door to the place hasn't been sanded properly and is liable to give a splinter to the next person to touch it.   Inside, the place smells heavily of smoke and decay, most of that smell coming from the poorly-tended fire in the room and the mouldering cards still be used here. Most of the tables are given over to card or dice games, although a game of frewsân is always available for those of dwarven heritage. The bar contains a small table (always full) and a wall covered in liquor bottles. To top off the utter disgust many feel when they walk into this place, stuffed duck heads adorn the walls.

History

The inn has been around for nearly a century, which explains the decaying nature of the cards and furniture that are original to the structure.
