Teris Market
"Upon first entering the city from the north, one's first stop in Gratic City is the Teris Marketplace. This small plaza is well-known for the little cobble wall that runs across the middle of the plaza, separating the square into the Farm Side and the Craft Side. On the Farm Side are the literal fruits of the labours of various local farmers and herders, as well as food and drink brought in from further afield. The Craft Side contains the wares of those who practice a trade, and those looking for tools and small works of art are encouraged to go to this area." ~ The City of Cities
Purpose / Function
This is the major market square for regional merchants who can't afford to reserve a place in Ither Market or own a shop in the city. Also, many of the smaller farms and labour camps surrounding the city sell their wares here. The divided nature of the square separates the foodstuffs from the crafts and trades.
Architecture
The square is divided into two parts, with a low stone wall that delineates the Farm Side and the Craft Side. The ground is very flat, but a small line of flatter ground and better quality stone traces a line from the southwest corner of the plaza to the northwest corner.
History
This square was built by Emperor Kelem II nearly a century ago to accommodate the rising numbers of merchants in the city. It was built at the point where the Ring Road was its closest to the Domiel Gate, and the Ring Road is still visible in the cobblestone of the streets.
