Kystinlagir

Kystinlagir

General Description

Smells of lumber, sawdust, and sweat. The houses are ancient built of lumber with turf roofs. A lot of outdoor, shaded common spaces.

The People

Handsome, well-built, and sunburnt. Casually violent and direct. Scars, wounds, and muscles abound.

GM Notes

1-in-12 chance of Lefthand Friya being in the village, staying at the Allthinghall.   1-in-6 chance that a camp of 2d10! lumberjacks have returned to the village after two weeks up valley and they're looking to fight, whore, and drink their way into an early grave.

Factions

Rules for the Faction Game can be found here
The Coins and the Fishes are in a shadow war with each other over control of the Kastinfistyng. They’re not in open war but close to it.   The Guilders are looking to reforge links back to Barony of Meedt (their homebase) and the inter strife in the village is working against them.

    Relationships

    Barony of Meedt

It is also a stopping point for traders from the Barony of Meedt although those have dried up due the Orc Wars so the town has shrunk considerably and gone into a recession.

    Black Brothers

Mace Krostoni has a personal vendetta agains the Black Brothers for making her life a living hell whenever she goes into Prensuchdt.

    Byrgilfin

Their shipments are constantly attacked, and their ships are sunk, by the Byrgilfin raiders.

    Estra's Lighthouse

Sailors from Prensuchdt, Kystinlagir, and the Barony of Meedt all consider the silver lights to be good luck and the purple lights to be bad luck for Estra's Lighthouse.

    Huhli dir Syndi

There is a huge problem with lumberjacks from Kystinlagir sneaking out to Huhli dir Syndi, getting in trouble or showing up late.

    Lanzinspotzi

The Lanzinspotzi marks the furtherest that the loggers of Kystinlagir travel up the valley. Beyond that, they say, you risk the attention of the Erstvolk ruin.   The people of Kystinlagir believe that their founder, Ranger Hilmoni, threw their javelin to mark the boundry between the humans and the elves when the elves first entered the area.

    Prensuchdt

Kystinlagir provides the lumber for Prensuchdt (and the great valley).

    Ranamirs' Well

A wildman lives at Ranamirs' Well. They often come into town to silently beg for food before returning.

    Questions

    Why Here?

The wide Ranamir River surrounded by dense forest means that you can send lumber camps up the valley who then use the river to send logs back down (and, from the village using the sea, to other areas).

    What Does the Village Provide?

Lumber. It was also a stop over for merchants heading from Meedt to Wollsch

    What Does It Lack?

Shipping to Meedt is particularly dangerous to the Byrgilfin. They mainly ship south (which is where their customers are nowadays anyway).
It has only one industry (lumber) which means it is particularly susceptible to price fluctuations. This is due to the fact that fishing is limited (due to raids from the Byrgilfin). It does have some supplemental fishing but mainly relies on crops and outlying farms that are away from the coast.
It has also had an economic downturn due to the Wars in Meedt. It has tried to expand its influence with its southern trading partners via marriage and inviting investors.

    What Threatens It?

    Byrgilfin raiders.

    How does it Protect Itself?

It’s created an early watch tower detection system along the north coast. It has centralized its market and storage in the small fort that has been built so, when raids do come, most everything is safe. (the Kastinfistyng). The cost is that the Amtmann is the defacto master of the village (as opposed to the master of the village) which has lead to friction.

    What Are the Norms?

Traditions, Beliefs, Religions, etc. What does the average person value? What are its Traditions? What beliefs does everyone have? What are the major and minor religions? How do the people see themselves?
