Black Brother's Camp

Black Brother's Camp

General Description

A swamp town connected by canals and ferries. What little land there is is choked with tents. Stilted buildings spill into the surrounding marsh.

The People

Young people full of life and vice. Many are scarred but almost are all smiling.

GM Notes

The ferries are free but used as a spy network for the Black Brothers   Players can rent tents of the hour or night at the Marsh Palace

Factions

Rules for the Faction Game can be found here
The Brynholders and Amalriokers both understand that they need to work with the Brothers to get anything done so they consider the camp a neutral ground and will even send diplomats to treat there.   The Leathlings and Irdmannlings are both cooperative: their leaders share an implict trust with one another after years of needing to rely on each other. While they disagree on the best way forward, the relationship is one of respect and openness.   The Black Brothers know that you can’t keep the other outlaw factions out so, instead, they focus on misdirection and feeding them misleading information.   The other outlaw factions are looking to spy to get leads on possible things to steal or to undermine the Brothers so either they’re remoras or parasites, depending.

Divine Factions

The Black Brothers are a particularly religious organization, spending a fair amount of their time and money on insuring that all the Divines are seen to and happy; as such, they don't have divided Divine Factions.

    Relationships

    Byrgilfin

The camp, and its defenses, are what's keeping the Byrgilfin from attempting a raid on Prensuchdt

    False Swamp

They know about the False Swamp but they don't know what it is and they're really not interested in finding out. They hired a WA, Tarbreaker Juchin, to keep it at bay. The WA isn't actually doing anything but he makes a good show.

    Faylir Jyngi

It is rumored that they bribed Faylir Jyngi to attack a ferry but there's no truth in that.

    High Shrine of Morjana

The Brothers send a weekly sacrifice to the High Shrine of Morjana as a way of keeping the Goddess happy. They also visit Estra's Lighthouse weekly for the same reason.

    Huhli dir Syndi

They regularly visit and ferry people to the Huhli dir Syndi for a small fee. They mainly use this as an excuse to go there themselves and will often pal around with those they ferry.

    Kystinlagir

The foremen of Kystinlagir, Mace Krostoni, has a personal vendetta against the Black Brothers for making his life a living hell.

    Livon's Otters

Extorts all the smugglers coming into the area via the river. Specifically Livon's Otters, the band out of The Keeper's Grove, Flysslagir's Brotherhood. Because of their connections in Prensuchdt, even if they sneak by, the Brotherhood can make life horrible for them.

    The Pit of the Goddess

The Black Brothers tend to not sail south. Their ships aren't really seaworthy and so have to stay close to the coast line: this puts them in the range of pull of The Pit of the Goddess

    Prensuchdt

They're bribing the shipmaster, False-Plank Rypricht, in Prensuchdt. Those that don't buy a 'black pass' are hit with tariffs, taxes, and regulations that can make their life hell.

    Sunken Farahold

The Black Brothers keep a contingent of men at Sunken Farahold as a back up hideout in case things go south. They have a small fortified area.

    Sympfilfin

The Sympfilfin regularly communicate with them for easy marks (new adventurers). They pay the Brothers a finder's fee for each killed.

    Questions

    Why Here?

It’s protected by swamp but still allows the Brothers to monitor and ‘tax’ ships coming into the bay

    What Does the Village Provide?

Taxes and protection/resting spot for the Brothers in the area. It is a capital of the faction, so to speak   It provides Prensuchdt protection against the Byrgilfin

    What Does It Lack?

Fresh water, protection from disease, fields to grow food   It’s in a marsh so there is a little land and a lot of stagnant water   Fishing and crabbing are used, as well as hunting, to get food   Large cisterns are used for water   A smelly perfume is used: put under the eyes and on the back of the neck, it keeps flies off, however, even after it’s removed, it will leave a faint smell

    What Threatens It?

    Rival gang raids, Spies, Disease

    How does it Protect Itself?

Counter spies, Bribery of people in Prensuchdt (Including Blindwolf), The ointment   What is the cost?
Constant vigilance and paranoia. They don’t build roads and force people to use ferries, which they use to listen in on conversations   That smell you can’t easy get rid of   Money constantly coming in to give out as ‘gifts’

    What Are the Norms?

Traditions, Beliefs, Religions, etc. What does the average person value? What are its Traditions? What beliefs does everyone have? What are the major and minor religions? How do the people see themselves?
