Ameiko's Dad is a Dick

by Cyanne

As a town hero, Inuyasha has become very popular with the ladies. This seemed to embarrass him as we have both spent most of our lives being seen as lesser people to many of the townsfolk. He handled it pretty well, though. I found it very shocking when Fray seemed to have an interest in me. I am not used to that, and I am not sure how I feel about it. I would much rather spend my time in arcane pursuits than worrying about romance.

Aldern Foxglove came to our hangout spot at the Rusty Dragon and gave us a formal invitation for us to go on a hunt boar with him. We accepted, and he bought horses and riding gear for us. Knowing that Kat was too big for a single horse, Aldern got him wagon with a team of horses. Aside from no single horse having to die under his weight, another benefit to that approach was that we could put supplies in the wagon.

Aldern seemed genuinely intrigued with the Heroes of Sandpoint. He politely asked each of us questions about our selves. He actually listened, asking relevant follow-up questions. At first I was a bit annoyed to be asked such questions, but he is our host and has gone to a great expense to have us with him, so I humored him and answered his questions honestly and without sarcasm. He also seemed to have some interest in the arcane arts, and if he is serious I think that I will be willing to teach him some things.

When we got to where the boars lived in the Tick Woods, the Beastars sang a terrible song that lured an irritated boar into our trap. Successful, we continued a similar approach with several other boars. We used Kat's wagon to take the boars back to Sandpoint.

While the boars were being prepared at the Rusty Dragon, Ameiko's father barged in angrily, yelling for her and annoying everyone else. Kat harassed him, and continued to do so for the entire time that he was there. As her father was making a scene, I cast a spell so that the Heroes could listen in.. Her father told us that we have been messing everything up and were ruining things with our bumbling heroics. Ameiko came into the room, looking irritated and had a messy ladle in her hand. Her father said some very mean things, and she hit him in the head with her ladle when he told her that she is dead to him, just like her mother. He left angrily. Ameiko cried and went back to work.

The fellow townsfolk, Amelia, came to the Rusty Dragon and begged for us to go to her house to take care of a goblin that was terrorizing their home. The child had been bitten, so I gave him a healing potion to cure his wounds. When we got there, her husband was dead on the ground with his face bitten off. It was a terrible sight but I was able to steel myself against it, even given my usual overall squeamishness. After the others engaged the lone goblin in melee, I finished it off with a fire bolt. A few minutes later, the sheriff came in and helped the now-widow attend to her family's needs. They were to leave to live with family outside of Sandpoint.

Fray and Inuyasha both went back to the Rusty Dragon to compete in wooing Ameiko. I cast the Speak Languages spell on them again so they could both speak her family's language. I went with the Beaastars to the Hagfish, after being invited by some sailors to go there. We played some of their games, and Kat succeeded against their test where he drank water from the hagfish's tank. People usually get sick when they drink it but he, being the stalwart eat-anything voracious creature that he is, kept it down.

Afterwards, the Heroes of Sandpoint were summoned to meet the mayor, Kendra. When we arrived, she thanked us for our heroics and introduced us to Shalelu. Inuyasha and I already knew her, and knew that she is a good friend to Ameiko. She has also been a kind friend to both of us. It turns out that the goblins have been uniting and causing trouble. They have taken note of our actions from our hunt with Daviren Hosk. The mayor asked us to defend the town while she goes to Magnimar to get more guards for Sandpoint and its surrounding area.

Shalelu went back to the Rusty Dragon with us. She told us about the five goblin tribes and their six notorious "heroes". That gave us a good list of targets for later hero work. But for now we will have to stay in Sandpoint to defend our fellow townsfolk.

We went to see the play, the Harpy's Curse. Most of the others took a date, but I did not want one. I thought about making Egon go with me, but decided that he would get back at me later and it was not wroth it to me. So, I sat alone in a corner. I usually prefer that.

Nobody had told me the play was a comedy. I really should have brought Egon with me after all. We would have made jokes the whole time. I was really rooting for the Harpy Queen, and I wondered about some of her great magics. I was very impressed and wondered if the writer had any actual arcane and occult knowledge or if he or she just made things up.

I was sad to see a group of actors dressed up as our group to do battle with the Harpy Queen. I would not want to fight her, I would want to learn form her. At least the actress for me was pretty. Or maybe if she was a wizard with a spellbook I could learn her magic after all.... My musings were interrupted by the sound of fireworks and screaming. Some goblins attacked the playhouse. It was nice of them to let the show finish, but rude for them to try to burn the place down, and especially so while were were in it. So much for a quiet night.

Fireworks and burning candles rained from above. Chaos ensued as townsfolk ran for their lives. I called for Minion, and he appeared above in the rafters about 15 feet away from me. He hit a goblin with his maul, and I finished it off with a fire bolt. Minion smashed a different goblin that was terrorizing people with fire as I fried a goblin even farther away with a fire bolt. Fray flew up into the air and blasted several goblins with celestial flame. After about 20 seconds of chaos we have killed all 15 of the goblins.

Father Zentus came in and called rains to put out the fire. The deputies came in and helped calm down the area. Cyrdak Drokkus had us take a bow in the town square for (mostly) saving his theater. It was damaged, but not lost. It was good to continue our heroic status, especially after that ranting from Ameiko's father.

The next morning we find that Ameiko has gone missing. We were nosy and read a letter to her from her brother. Inuyasha and I know him, he is a jerk that used to live at the orphanage with us. Apparently her father was allied with the goblins against Sandpoint. No wonder he said that we were messing things up, we were ruining his plans. That got me thinking, he hobbles around. Those boots that we saw when we were with the sheriff were not him. Someone else is also working with the goblins. Now we need to figure out where Ameiko is, and hopefully rescue her. Ameiko is a good friend and I would hate for her to be hurt, but I think it be even harder on Inuyasha, who has been interested in her since we were children.
