We spent about a month in Sandpoint after defending it from the stone giants. I had mentioned in my staff in my last entry but did not mention how I got it. I had helped Ilsori with his gambling debt and he used his contacts to procure the staff for me. As I looked upon Sandpoint and reflected upon its defense, I decided that it needed more magic to defend it from any invaders. I spent most of the month teaching magic to the orphans and anyone else that seemed to be genuinely interested.
It was good to be recognized for my arcane achievements and respected in a town that many, but not all, had looked down on me. I wonder how many of them had to choke down their bitterness and resentment as I had saved their lives and homes when they would have died if I and my friends had not been there. Even that twit, Nisk, had managed to apologize. He would have been giant food (or rather, a small snack), if we had not chased them down and eradicated his captors.
While I spent most of my time at the Academy, Minion helped to rebuild the town and performed various kindly favors for people. When Meyos was ready, I helped him to build a bridge to where he plans to have a temple of Sarenrae built. For now, it is a sort of soup kitchen.
We borrowed Egon's wagon to take us on our journey to invade the giants. Depending on what we encounter on the way, it should take us about a week to get there. As we got into the colder areas, we found that there was flaw in the wagon's power. When we take it back I will have to tell Egon about it so he can come up with a solution. Fortunately, we had Meyos with us, and he is a great source of power. I kept us warm with the fire magic from my new staff.
I had never been up this way before. The landscape was beautiful, and got marred with a battle site that we had driven by. It looks like some giants had killed a bunch of humans. We discovered that some ogres were stealing cattle from some herdsmen that lived in a town that we had passed through, and the ogres were unfortunate to find us, thinking we would be easy prey. We put a stop to the ogre problem.
Some wolves and werewolves were plaguing the next town that we drove to, called Wolf's Ear. We fought them in a forest, which made Vicky happy. As soon as we noticed they were near, Storm Shadow killed a werewolf in one shot. Vicky killed two of the the others, and wounding the third, outdoing him. It is good to see those two be efficient in their competition. I finished off the third and levitated so they could not try to eat me. With no more werewolves to attack, Minion shot a wolf, downing it. Four wolves rushed him, and he booped one in the nose, canceling its attack as he evaded and blocked the attacks of the others.
The remaining eight wolves swarmed Vicky. One managed to bite her. Meyos prayed to Sarenrae, and the twelve wolves became his pets. Meyos healed Vicky's wound. The wolf pack lead us back to their lair. He let six of them free, but six remained with us.
Later in our journey we were attacked by Shaonti barbarians. "Attacked" is kind of a joke as all they manged was to sound scary and look like they were going to try to kill us. They did not last long. Vicky killed 6 of them with a rain of arrows. I only killed 5 by catching 3 in a sloth spell, followed immediately by incinerating them without them being able to flee, and then killing the remaining two with a fireball. The last barbarian ran for his life, only to be ripped apart by Meyos' wolves with their lightning teeth.
