Fires in Sandpoint. Again

by Cyanne

After we defended the bridge, we saw the young red dragon flying int he sky after it lit the garrison and cathedral on fire. Vicky got its attention with a dragon-bane arrow. That angered it and it flew towards us with startling speed. In preparation for it breathing fire on us, we all drank some of the potions of arcane resistance that I had made in preparation for the battle. The group let off a barrage of arrows and spells at the dragon as it came towards us. The dragon breathed fire on the others, stopping its flames a bit before they would have hit me. The magic of the potions was sufficient, and none of us were injured. While I am immune to its flames, I had figured there was a good probability that it might try to cast a spell at me so I had drank a potion anyway.

As Meyos was in the nearby river, a gust of wind and torrent of tornadoes flew from him to hit the dragon, nullifying all of his active powers. Vicky and Shalelu hit the dragon with their bane arrows and I hit it with a frost bolt, leaving it heavily wounded. Shalelu finished it off with the the remaining, sixth, dragon bane arrow and its body smashed against the ground with a loud thud.

Vicky wanted to start skinning it right then, but we assured her that it would still be here in the same condition when the battle was over and she accompanied the rest of us to defend against the giants and goblins that were terrorizing the town square, breaking things and taking prisoners.

Vicky gave them a greeting as she launched two gas bolts on the goblins and then Minion fired a massive grenade, igniting it, causing it to explode. Minion and I moved forward, and I cast a spell to read the mind of the lead giant and discovered he is searching for a piece of stone the catacombs of wrath, beneath the light house. That is where the rune well was located, which we destroyed.

The giant leader hit me with a large boulder. That really hurt! This asshole is going to die. I drank a greater healing potion. I then fireballed the area, careful to make it skip allies and townsfolk, killing most of the enemies, and then shot the giant leader with an decaying bolt, wounding him. In response to his injury, he blew a horn to signal a retreat.

After he dropped to the ground, mortally wounded and unable to fight, the others ran after the giants to save the townsfolk they were stealing, as I stayed behind to interrogate him and rip data from his mind before finishing him off.

I teleported into the chase and cast fly on myself and my allies, making it much easier for us to chase them down. I should have done that before they ran off, but I did not think of it in time. We managed to save most of the townsfolk. We then set out to hunt down the remaining giants and free anyone else that remained alive.

After the battle for Sandpoint, people (and money) came into the area. I sold off some of my magical items that are not as useful to us and spent most of my money on a new staff, which has a red dragon on top, with its tail coiled around the top half of the staff. When I use it to activate its spells, its neck, head, and mouth move to cast them as it "breathes" fire to create the effects.
