Raiding the Raider

by Cyanne

I spent about a day scrying the fort and its surrounding area to get an idea of the layout, defenses, and inhabitants. While I would have liked to kill every last one of them, I decided that it would be hard for our small group of five. And then there is the high probability that the leader would run away while we are storming the place.

I decided that a swift surgical strike was the answer. We should strike fast and without warning. I scried specifically for Lord Mokmurian, the wizard in charge of the assault against Sandpoint. I found him within a warded lair, which set off alarms as soon as I saw him. I would have preferred to take more time to study the room and its defenses, but as soon as the alarms began I decided it was time to teleport us into the fray immediately.

As soon as we arrived, Meyos dispelled the Mokmurian's powers as he summoned two blue dragons. Impressive! I did not know he could do that. Wasting no time, Vicky shot Mokmurian with several arrows. After silently approving of her accuracy, I used my staff to shoot him with a fire bolt and created an area of fire to block off the reinforcements at the only entrance to the room.

In surprised response, probably pissing himself (or worse), Mokmurian flew up to the ceiling and cast a sloth spell upon us and then turned Vicky into a giant frog. He then shot me with a flame bolt from a ring of spell storing, which I absorbed into my empty ioun stone. Demon monsters, Hounds of Tindalos, came in and death glared us, hurting Vicky and Meyos. Mokmurian's clockwork sentinels shot at us with automatic crossbows and destroyed both of Meyos' dragons.

Mokmurian hit us with an ice storm, freezing poor Vicky. Everything seems to happen to her, but much of that is more due to her positioning than specifically targeting her. Meyos angrily healed Vicky and then summoned twelve more blue dragons. They breathed lightning at Mokmurian. As I enjoyed the view of him being electrocuted, I realized that he seemed like he was controlled by something. Probably one of these idiots blathering on about these Runelords and their evil plot.

And yet, after all of that, he remained standing and looking like he was going to put up a fight, or run away. At this thought, I put full focus into killing him. I started my magical onslaught by dispelling his magic (which restored Vicky to a mostly-Human and tore his magical defenses to shreds), followed by invoking a very powerful Luck spell, which would both improve my own luck and jinx him at the same time, and then I hit him with as big of a fire bolt as I could manage. As his attempted teleport fizzled and drained him of energy, the bolt went in one ear, out the nearest eye, in the other eye, and then out that ear.

Instead of immediately dying, his body was jerked around like a marionette and he looked at us without eyes as he laughed, and a voice yammered on, claiming to be the Runelord Karzoug. At least now we have a name for our opposition. I wonder why he was so stupid as to show himself to us. Is he that prideful?
