After we gave the remaining two rangers so weapons, we proceeded to the home of the ogrekin, intent to rid the world of their cancerous existence. I considered setting the home on fire, but as we had discovered in the barn, the two structures are effectively immune to fire. Such a shame as it would have been good to block the door and burn it, and everyone within it, to the ground.
As I had suspected, the porch was very unwelcoming to visitors. Several large saw blades were made to be able to pop up from below to cut visitors. Iarra disabled them, and Kat added the saws to his cart.
I suspected that this cruel home would likely have traps all over the place, perhaps anywhere. After we went into the first room, it occurred to me that this suspicion, while obvious to me, would be a great mystery to some of the others, Kat in particular. I verbalized my suspicion just in time as he stopped before stepping into a pit trap. Inside the pit were several spears coated in poison. I removed them from the pit and carefully gave them to Kat to add to his cart.
We decided to follow the traps to guide our initial path through the home. While the artwork and overall craftsmanship was childish, evident of a dismally low intellect, I could not help but find some of it to somehow remind me of home as it was strangely comforting.
A head was sitting on top of a table, like all of the furniture in this building, made out of parts of people and animals. The head reminded me of the beggar girl that I gave some coins to in Magnimar. It had unsettled me and I felt nauseous for a short while. I noticed it was over around the time I touched my temples, and black smoke came from my mouth to make some zombies out of the ogrekin we had encountered in the following room. They would be great to use to find traps with and a disposable way to search through the house without exposing our group to harm.
I had one zombie go ahead, alone, as I guided it and observed its surroundings through its eyes. When I encountered interesting things, I would create an illusion to relay what I saw to the others. One zombie was devoured by many other zombies in the master bedroom. Before it was destroyed, I was able to notice a shimmer on the bed, letting me deduce that someone big is invisible there.
As we decided how we would attack the room, I shared my wizard sight with all of the others, allowing us to all be able to see magic and, more importantly, see the invisible. Minion created his own door with his maul from the wall of a nearby room. Vicky used her crossbow from the hallway into the actual door into the room. The invisible being had been a huge female ogrekin monstrosity that did not last long as Inuyasha charged in and butchered her. A fitting end for the butcher she was.
I added her and some of the others to replace some of my fallen zombies. Exploring the place had some weird findings, such as for some reason they killed their female infants but kept their body parts as resources. I supposed that is what they did to any carcass. Waste not, want not. There was certainly an admirable efficiency. I was curious about their plant monster, and wondered to myself about how they got it and the spiders that were in the barn, especially the very huge spider.
