Carran Kaya (KAH-ran KAI-yah)
Oliver Jones and Kwasi Sarfo's Home
Carran Kaya is a testament to the timeless craft of stonemasonry, harmoniously blending the architectural styles and artisanal traditions from both Oliver and Kwasi's backgrounds of Celtic and African. The structure itself is built from various types of stone, each chosen for its unique color, texture, and structural integrity, creating a visual tapestry that is both striking and harmonious.
The exterior of the home features intricate stonework that includes reliefs and sculptures which tell stories of both the natural world and human endeavor—echoing the narratives found in ancient African art and the rugged beauty of Celtic motifs. This theme continues inside, where the spaces are designed with an open, flowing layout that allows for ample natural light to enhance the beauty of the stonework. Each room showcases bespoke elements crafted by Oliver and Kwasi, from sculpted fireplace mantels to hand-carved stone furniture, blending functionality with art.
The grounds of Carran Kaya are just as meticulously crafted, featuring a garden with pathways and benches of stone, inviting reflection and relaxation. A workshop area is also incorporated into the landscape, serving as both a teaching space for the community and a personal studio, where the clink of chisel on stone continues to resonate, symbolizing their ongoing contributions to the craft and community.
