Tancarhus (TAN-kar-hoos)
Tancred, Declan and Ronan's Home
Tancarhus is a striking architectural marvel seamlessly integrated into the rugged mountainside, offering breathtaking views of the northern sea. The house features a facade of large glass panels that provide panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape, creating a constant connection with the beloved ocean. The stone exterior blends naturally with the mountain, giving the impression that the house is a natural extension of the terrain.
Inside, Tancarhus is both warm and inviting, with exposed rock walls, wooden beams, and modern, minimalist furnishings that complement the natural surroundings. The central living space opens to a small, tranquil pool that mirrors the rocky backdrop, adding to the serene ambiance. This pool, situated outside, serves as a perfect place for relaxation and reflection.
The house includes several specialized rooms to accommodate the residents' unique skills and hobbies. Beneath the surface, an extensive underground workshop is dedicated to Rónán's metalworking. This space is equipped with a forge and blacksmithing tools, where the rhythmic clang of hammer on anvil can often be heard, resonating through the mountain. The dim lighting and warm glow of the forge create an atmosphere of ancient craftsmanship and enchantment.
Adjacent to the metalworking room, a dedicated workshop for Tancred's woodworking showcases his exquisite craftsmanship. The room is filled with the scent of fresh wood, and various tools and half-finished projects are meticulously organized. Large windows offer a stunning view of the sea, providing inspiration and a sense of peace as Tancred works on his creations.
One of the house’s most luxurious features is the underground hot springs and lounging area. This natural steam room is a haven of relaxation, with the warm, mineral-rich waters providing a perfect retreat from the outside world. The area is designed for comfort, with stone benches and soft lighting enhancing the tranquil environment.
Despite being built into the mountain, Tancarhus remains connected to the natural beauty of Tir na nOg. The rooms with windows are strategically placed to always offer views of the sea, allowing the residents to feel the presence of the ocean at all times. This blend of natural elements and thoughtful design creates a harmonious living space that is both functional and deeply connected to the environment.
