The Timeskip in Greland | World Anvil

The Timeskip

Toward the end of the year 443KS Greland enters a period of relative stability, and various ongoing issues which have defined the years 441-443KS are resolved (such as The Black Cities in the The Foxworth Duchy, Old Caulstid in Southbay and the matter of King Tyon I Cray's succession, amongst others). As a result of this stability, rather than fabricate drama for its own sake, it was decided that the game would jump forward a decade to the beginning of the year 454KS. This page and its linked pages explore the various impacts that this will have on the game.

The Narrative

Obviously, time will not be standing still in Greland. Broadly speaking, there will be at least one significant event take place each year, which will have some impact on characters across the continent. Each of these events will happen in 'real time' with one or more sessions where players can play out their reactions or responses to these events.

Forecast Events

Certain impending events are already known to be coming, and are likely to want to be marked by characters in some way.

Timeline

The Timeskip 444-454KS
  • 444KS:
    • January the First: it is anticipated that King Tyon I Cray will use the anniversary of his coronation to announce his long awaited Wedding to Princett Nym Cimber, with the event itself to take place the following year. Throughout The Kingdom of Somercrag the remainder of the year is likely to be taken up with making plans and gathering funds for the event. Tyon will announce a temporary increase in tithes from his Dukes to one-third of their income to cover these expenses.

Other Events

One of the purposes of the timeskip is to allow a period where players' actions aremore abstract, allowing the use of Story Points and other player action to define some of this less well defined period. Particularly significant player-driven events will be listed below:

Births, Deaths, Weddings

Finally, the passage of a decade of time will have some effects on the people of Greland. The exact mechanics of this are covered in Non-Player Characters and the Timeskip, but there are likely to be a number of deaths of characters connected to the Players, as well as a number of new ones born. Some characters will marry. Squires currently in training will become full fledged knights, while young children will find employment as squires, handmaidens, men-at-arms, and spire advisors.
