Castinghall
Castinghall is a small but vibrant trade port city located on the shores of Kilalda Bay on the Isle of Baeddon. Part of the Kingdom of Kildare, the city bears a strong Daoine influence. Its proximity to Caer Craftenor, the capital of the neighboring Kingdom of Louth, makes it a bustling center for trade and diplomacy, where goods and ideas flow freely across the bay.
The city's waterfront is lined with sleek Daoine-style ships, their sails painted with intricate knotwork designs, loading and unloading a variety of goods, from fine textiles and enchanted trinkets to furs and salt fish. The docks are a hub of activity, with fishermen, sailors, and merchants haggling over prices, while scribes and stewards maintain detailed records of transactions in both the Kildare and Louth markets.
The architecture of Castinghall is a mix of traditional Daoine stonework, with buildings adorned with elaborate carvings of fey creatures and nature spirits, and more practical Northlander timber structures. The heart of the city is the market square, where traders from across the isles gather beneath colorful banners, creating a kaleidoscope of sounds and scents. The Daoine’s reverence for the land is reflected in the many small shrines and sacred trees throughout the city, where offerings are made to honor local spirits.
Though under the rule of Kildare, Castinghall’s Daoine influence allows for a semi-autonomous governance structure, with a council of elders and merchants who oversee the city’s affairs alongside the Kildare-appointed steward Marquess. Daoine traditions foster a unique cultural identity, where magic, trade, and diplomacy all intertwine.
Kilalda Bay, with its deep, calm waters, is the lifeblood of the city. It connects Castinghall to both the greater world and its neighboring rival, Caer Craftenor, setting the stage for both cooperative trade and occasional tensions.
