Dunnith Mountains
The Dunnith Mountains loom large over the northern region of the Isle of Baeddon, an imposing range filled with ancient secrets and deadly mysteries. Situated north of the towns Gill-Eathin and Wick, the mountains are a place where multiple civilizations have risen and fallen, their legacies carved into the stone. The towering peaks are rugged and treacherous, their slopes riddled with caves, hidden fortresses, and ruins that speak to the long, tumultuous history of this isolated region. Despite the challenges, the mountains offer riches and power to those brave enough to explore their depths.
Dominating the high peaks of the Dunnith Mountains is the dwarven citadel of Khelbadur, a fortress of stone that claims independence from the Kingdom of Louth. The dwarves of Khelbadur are fiercely protective of their sovereignty and control over the mountains' rich mineral deposits. Their citadel is renowned for its craftsmanship, where expert blacksmiths and miners forge goods of unparalleled quality. While their loyalty lies with their own kind, the dwarves are not alone in these mountains. Beneath the dark caverns and deep underpasses, another society thrives: the Drow city of Sharr Mhaor. Hidden far below the surface, Sharr Mhaor is a dark, labyrinthine city where the drow carry out their own machinations, often in direct opposition to the dwarves above.
The Dunnith Mountains are also home to the ruins of Aldevorgrik, a once-proud dwarven clan whose stronghold was lost to the destruction of the White Dragon That Breathes Fire. The downfall of Aldevorgrik serves as a grim reminder to the dwarves of Khelbadur of the fragility of all of the clans. Deep beneath the ruins, the true danger of the Dunnith Mountains lies hidden: The Arcane Lock, a powerful magical barrier that binds Nyctelios, The Mad God, in eternal captivity. Nyctellios, a god of chaos and madness, was imprisoned deep within the earth by his fellow gods, and the Arcane Lock serves as the only safeguard against his return.
To the east of the mountains lies Myloch Vale, a secluded region with a direct connection to The Feywild. The vale’s proximity to the Dunnith Mountains has imbued the area with fey magic, making it a place of wonder and danger. The fey influence seeps into the mountains themselves, twisting the environment in subtle ways. The Dunnith Mountains, with their rich history, dangerous inhabitants, and mystical secrets, are a place of constant tension, where the forces of civilization, magic, and chaos collide. Travelers and adventurers who enter these peaks do so knowing they tread on ground where gods were once bound, and where the echoes of ancient powers still stir in the depths.
