Sapphire Basin

Geography

The Sapphire Basin is the largest lake in Oros. It is roughly circular in shape with a diameter of approximately 50 miles and extends to an unknown depth. The cities of Glangbaor and Iltrea are based near the lake shores. The Glangbaor river and Iltrea river both feed the lake.

Ecosystem

The lake is full of fresh water fish.    This was not always the case, during early Exalos Dynasty Times the lake was highly polluted by the mines of Glangbaor. This is thought to be the cause of the first of many conflicts between Glangbaor and Iltrea.

Localized Phenomena

Every few years there is an algae bloom in the lake, causing the lake to take on a sapphire colour. The algae itself is harmless and only found in this particular lake.

Climate

The temperature is quite moderate all year round. The lake swells during the winter with the autumn and winter rains and drops in water level during the summer.

History

The lake has been the site of many conflicts between the Dwarves of Glangbaor and the Elves of Iltrea. It is thought that there are hundreds, if not thousands of skeletons at the bottom of the lake.
