Gothmyr

"….and O'hl watched from above as two of his three Star Children played upon the surface of Edus. He watched their hands moving and creating, clenching and destroying, using the fertile planet for their own interests. The two star children focused to the North where the green waters touch green land. The two Children built a city; a home for man. The land was inviting and offered the mortals a home, safe and secure. But the Star Children bored quickly and buried the city. Once again their hands moved and created, bringing forth another city. Again O'hl watched the Children experiment and play with the mortals in the new city, before destroying it again. Five cities were created and destroyed, one being buried atop the previous, pushing the older city deeper before O'hl stepped in and forced his Star Children to leave the mortals to their new sixth city. The City built on the shadow of the former versions. O'hl decided to let his star children nudge and tweak but nothing more. O'hl was once again content to watch and let the mortals live as they would."
-From the Seventeenth scroll of Dark, the scripture of O'hl

Overview:

  The Nation of Gothmyr sits on the eastern coast of Edus. It is the largest and most active nation among the other dozen or so known nations rebuilding on Edus. The capitol city is named near identical to the nation it rules. Dwarves, human, elves, halflings and half-orc live next to one another in relative peace. Most of the citizens of the nation of Gothmyr never feel the governmental yoke like so many other nations’ peoples. The country is rocky, hilly and has a temperate coverage over the entire country. The nation is rich in everything from fruit and vegetables to wool, leather, textiles and even ore. Some of the best weapons come out of the dwarven mines within the nation of Gothmyr. Horses here are a hearty breed, used to rocky terrain and pulling capacity. Not bred for speed, but for working and endurance, the Gothmyri horses are prized to farmers and adventurers alike. The capitol city of Gothmyr is named Kings Watch: The City of Shadows, also known as the City of Six. The city sits in the easternmost coast of Edus, far to the north, where snow hits in winter, and temperate climes make the summers desirable. Built to the south of a great lateral mountain range, the city proper hides comfortably at the top of an inlet bay. The heraldry for the national flag is semy de lys sable and purpure a tressure or in fess point a roundel or in fess point a bat sable.

Capitol: Kings Watch

No one knows exactly when the city was built, or when the earliest recordings of the location were written, but anyone on Edus, know of Kings Watch. It is known that the city and its inhabitants never rest. It is older than any other habitable city on Edus, but the age of Gothmyr reaches father back than almost any alive today know. There are six Ages within the history of Edus. The city of Kings Watch was originally founded in the First Age, The Age of the Gods. It has a dark, seedy and mysterious history that spans all six Ages, which gives the city one of its many monikers, ‘The City of Six”. What many do not know, is that the city of Kings Watch is the lynchpin to each and every Age.

Ancient History:

No one truely knows the full history of the lands claimed by the crown. Gothmyr has always had a building claiming the area since the First Age. The city has been rebuilt each and every time an Age ends and a new one begins.
Upon the Age of Awakening (AA), A knight from another realm entered the land and took a handful of dwarves, humans and drow and made their way until they reached a natural bay. This knight And his followers began to make a shelter from the weather and soon the first stone was laid to name the area Grotmere. The village became a town, which became a small city, and the knight protected the city with the help of some trained citizens. This knight became the leader of Grotmere and soon the city of Knights Watch thrived, until the gods punished the world.
Upon the Age of Bestowment (AB) and the re-founding of Grotmere nation, the town of Knights Watch began to gather more citizens. Jeggred Von Luen was found prince and was raised by the aging Knight. Young Jeggred was a half drow and the Knight claimed as his son, noble born. Peoples of Edus began to realize the safety of the nation of Grotmere was better than trying to survive in the wilds outside. The people worked the land and extended the reach and control of Grotmere.
The Age of Conflict (AC) again saw Grotmere fall, and a descendant of the Knight took the throne. A half drow male named Jeggred Von Luen II. The nation was recorded in this Age as Grothmere.
The Fourth Age, the Age of Dragons (AD) saw more power come to the land of Grothmyr, and again another descendant of the original Jeggred climbed to the Throne. The nation was again renamed. This time the name was changed to Gothmeer, and has been recorded as one of the few regions of Edus that was a semi refuge from the tyranny of Dragons, unleashed upon the world. Prince Jeggred Von Luen X made a pact with a elder gold dragon, in return for protection for his people, he swore that killing a gold dragon in the nation was a death sentence. The city became known as Kings Watch during the Draconic occupation of the FourthAge;
The fifth Age, the Age of Enlightenment (AE), saw technology and more enter the nation of Gothmeer. Common type and script changed the name's twin 'e's' to a common 'y', becoming Gothmyr. The name was first recorded as Gothmyr in this Age which has stayed into this present Age. Magic and divine power returned to the people of Edus, and Gothmyr was at the forefront of these gifts. Technology and magic progressed as time progressed through the Age.

Current History:

As the Sixth Age dawned, the Age of Fortune (AF), Gothmyr was rebuilt and the people saw their lives thriving faster than previous Ages. They got back on their feet and their homes rebuilt, with less trouble than before. The lands claimed by Kings Watch is seeing abundant growth and thriving foods as well as a bit of peace for once. The nation is always warring on one border or the other, with the Wildreach always threatens to encroach into the lands of Gothmyr.
One hundred and eleven years ago, in the month of Octome, an undead scourge attacked the nation of Gothmyr. It began in the streets of the capitol, Kings Watch, and soon spread across the nation like a plague. Heroic adventurers fought next to watchmen and citizens themselves. The undead plague lasted for nearly two years, until heroes and adventurers seemed to save the nation of Gothmyr, reestablishing peace. Necromancy was to blame and was outlawed as a legal school of magic within the nation of Gothmyr. Currently, Pennimair has declared war on Gothmyr over an insult over twenty years ago. With constant naval battles, and Pennimair being blocked from Gothmyr by the Iron Kingdoms the war has been slowed to minor skirmishes and coastal town attacks, but no true land war has occurred for over three years. Pennimair nation will jail or exile any an all people who claim Gothmyr as their place of residence, accusing them as spies or subversives.
