Erdan, Lord of the Hive
The Draconic Necromancer
The battle that brought me to Liminal. We had received a lead that Erdan was making his lair in a cave near the Chaos Woods. We knew there was a massive reward from several countries for his death or capture and he was infamous for creating undead plagues where ever he went. He was also notoriously hard to catch. See, unlike his children we found, this was an ancient dragon and ancient dragons are a different beast entirely. See dragons are known for their powerful magics, but unlike the average individual, they don't simply have a single magical talent they specialize in. They are our version of Wizards. Spellcasters that can naturally learn the magical talents of others and turn their spells into their own power, as well as create spells of their own. This talent is rare among most races, but dragons? EVERY dragon eventually acquires this skill as they age and it only grows more powerful as their heart of mana grows and condenses throughout the centuries. Worse, he rarely acted in his true form, instead carving out the minds of other beings and using them as puppets he can channel his power through, even going so far as being able to transform them into simulacrums of himself. Even worse than that, he himself can shapeshift. All this makes it next to impossible to pick out his true body.
All of this meant that most of the younger hunters were not meant to engage the dragon. We were to set up weapons at the entrance of the cave. We were an insurance policy to insure that he didn't escape. Poisoned ballista bolts, magical bolas, my shadow magic to help restrain him, nets... we were ready to unleash enough hell on him to stop an entire army in their tracks. And yet when he came charging out of the cave he simply plowed through it. Nets and bolas tore. Ballista bolts and magic attacks bounced off, and my shadow magic? Well one of the shadow tendrils I had did manage to find a hole in his defenses from the sheer number of attacks and hooked into one of it's wings. Unfortunately I was too slow detaching it from myself and was pulled into the air. I think a couple others were as well. All we could do was hang on and hope for the best as Erdan flew directly towards the center of the Chaos Woods. I myself was forced to unconsciousness as he unleashed a magical scream. When I woke up I was already being helped aboard a ship in the Liminal Plane.
