"Got woken up by some unearthly screaming last night. Still not sure what exactly that was but when I looked out the window, some strange giant bird creatures were flying away. Wasn't sure what was going on but I understood pretty quick that we would be heading out quickly enough so I headed straight for the docks. I was assigned to the airship to chase one of the birds towards the Word Tree."
"Horrifyingly, this creature opened up all the rifts along the way to the Word Tree, including one to some hell dimension. We stopped to deal with it and I decided given the rush we were in I would gamble on the lippy substance I gathered up during our trip in Yoke. See, I noticed the magical properties of the stuff sharing some similarity with Dragonstone back home. They're powerful mana crystals used to recharge an individual's magic with the downside of overcharging causing.. problems. What I saw in this substance was something similar but with a different potential side effect. In exchange for increase magical output there was a risk of illness. Seems a small cost when severe circumstances are involved. Especially with a certain Librarian lurking out there."
"Unfortunately this opportunity to test the substance out did not go well. I don't know if it was the lack of sleep after a long day working on navigation equipment, me having an off day, or if the sheer overwhelming power I felt disrupting my sense of balance. Perhaps it could even have been all of them in some combination. Either way, the end result was me struggling to stay onboard the airship during the intense maneuvers of combat. Had to be saved once by the new recruit Caram and once by the ever amazing Pim. Guess I owe both of them drinks or a favor after today, I'll leave it up to them. In any case, we managed to clear out the demons and I got the rift closed before we continued on our way to the Word Tree."
"When we arrived at the Word Tree we found the bird creature we were chasing picking through the Word Tree. Given the nature of the tree, this was absolutely an unacceptable risk. If it did something like rip our memories out of the tree, the potential danger would be catastrophic. Pim and B+ clearly saw this as well and blasted the thing into damn near oblivion. Enough where all it took was a chair thrown by one of the worpeltinger apprentices to finish it off. So after it's death throes sent us careening into the between for a bit, we eventually regained control and headed home."
"I definitely learned one thing today however. I can't rely on this lippy stuff as it is on its own against the oncoming storm. I need to readjust my battle plans accordingly. Save it as a desperate last measure or combine it with more favorable circumstances."
