So another mission. We decided to finally take action against that storm the explosion of our previous sub caused. Not something I expected to be much help with so I stuck around on the new sub while the airship and away team went ahead.
It was pretty routine for the most part at first. Just keeping an eye on the navigation controls as we arrived on site. Then the giant Lippies came, skittering around on the sub. For a moment I thought we'd get a chance to try out some of the new features. I for one wanted to wrestle them with the sub's new arms. Smash them into each other and the like. Captain decided we should make sure not to agitate them however. Suppose I can't blame her being a bit cautious with the new sub. Apparently Vatna opened a rift and Lio used some magic to lure them into it? Seemed like a riskier option to me than combat in many ways but Vatna's mastery over rifts is rather substantial it seems. Also have to admit, seemed a rather extreme measure. Either we killed a very large number of them or we unleashed them onto another world. Was that really the right choice? I guess we'll see.
Anyways, not entirely clear what happened after that situation happened. Apparently some science experiment based on my World Fair project went horribly wrong and caused some chaos? I'm going to have to study what they did with my idea. Maybe they solved some of the problems I hadn't figured out yet, particularly with materials. Obviously wouldn't want to exactly replicate it as they went far too high risk too quickly. Nilly would have probably agreed with the idea that high risk came with high reward, but even she knew to limit the scope of testing new alchemical projects to a scale that she could control. She wouldn't test a new bomb by making it large enough to destroy a village for example. She'd keep the yield lower until she understood its properties. Those nuns however seemed to have jumped straight to "Let's blow up a mountain!"
Anyways, before said project blew up entirely, apparently they did accomplish creating some sentient magical creature. I admit I'm curious about it. They apparently fought it at first but it gained sentience soon after? When I heard the message to save it, I used one of the scrolls I made to focus my shadows into a solid platform to send up to the group, then followed instructions to contain the creature until it could be talked to. Things almost went wrong pretty quickly after that. LETO was trapped in the storm. We were given orders to withdraw however despite the risk to his life. I wanted to move the forcefield to help him but with the withdrawal and the distance, that wasn't exactly an easy thing to do. Luckily, LETO ended up absorbing the storm into himself and survived! That was quite an amazing and inspiring feat. I'm impressed!
Oh and apparently I missed Lio asking Pim out. Makes me regret staying on the sub as I really wanted to see that. Means I'll just have to get some plans ready before their date. It's a shame Akhana isn't going to be available around that time. I was going to be sneaky and invite her along just to mess with Lio and see where things go. Perhaps this is for the best though. Take things slower rather than the added risk her inclusion might have caused. Still, I'm going to make a point to bring some things along for them and act as their errand boy best I can. Not exactly a dignified position, but hey, it'll be worth it to not only help Lio out, but to mess with him as much as I can. In any case, I need to see if I can track some stuff down from Pim's home town... wonder if I can talk to a few of her siblings. Bet they'll have some of the best ideas.
