Sahlak Mountains

While nowhere near as extensive as the Karagors Mountain Range in the north, the Sahlak mountains are home to many peaks overlooking the West Sahlabao Desert and Terra's Scar. There is a freshwater spring that flows from The Crystal Basin out north into Lake Veremil. The Sahlak Mountains are considered to be one of the most divine and spiritual locations in all of Nerunia, hosting a variety of celestials and spirits.

There is only one settlement in the Sahlak Mountains, Kresh, although some nomadic tribes roam between the peaks.

Geography

Being home to steep mountains with a ravine to the north, the Sahlak Mountains are very difficult to enter. Unless you're willing to brave the steep sides of the desert mountains, the only way through the region is a path that runs from Saha'la to Shalao, running through Kresh. This path only passes through the southern part of the mountains, meaning if you want to go further in you'll have to risk it on foot like some of the nomadic tribes found here.

As the location is considered spiritually important by both the deities and mortals, it is considered hugely blasphemous to lay claim to the region. It is unclaimed and unsettled, with the exception of Kresh, which is home to the guardians of the region. Claiming the region for yourself or trying to exploit its resources is considered a major divine insult, as detailed in the tale of Chief Krulgum the Exploiter.
