The Great Forest

The Great Forest, or Degrinoll in Elvish , is a sprawling mass of thick trees in the mid north of Meintalia. It is primarily oak but there are groves of birch and the occasional beech and other coniferous trees. The north western edge of the forest, attached to the Arthrypt Wetlands, is made up mainly by fir trees. Due to the wild nature of the forest, a lot of wild beasts roam here so it’s dangerous to stray from the path. The forest is home to the Elves and doesn’t see a lot of foot traffic other than elven scouts and hunters.

There is one large city in the centre of the forest, also called Degrinoll, which is considered the Elven capitol, and two smaller settlements nearer the eastern edge of the forest, Thalmia and Chansola .

Geography

The forest is a huge sprawling mass of various trees, mostly comprising of oak, particularly around th centre. The overgrowth and vegetation throughout the forest is thick and great care should always be taken not to stray too far from the paths. There are several rivers running through the forest, the main one being the River Angen which flows from the northern border right through to the southern border and beyond, passing through Lake Malar on the way. Lake Malar sits in the centre of the forest with an island in the centre where the city of Degrinoll sits. There is another, smaller lake to the north that the River Angen also feeds, known as Lake Drydeth.

Fauna & Flora

The forest is home to a rich and thriving ecosystem, full of plants and animals both common and rare too numerous to name. The high biodiversity and abundance of otherwise rare plants makes the forest a brilliant foraging area for healers, alchemists and even chefs.
