Azimuth 2 - Session 01 - Silvery-White Threads

General Summary

Porgorag

The Darksteel Foundry
On the morning of 1 Adroth 5A 352, the rain that had been falling over Tarteria for several days finally stopped and silvery-white sunlight broke though the cloud cover.   In the Darksteel Foundry of Porgorag, Borscha Brickwell dissapointedly observed the mass activity of the crew. Dwarven and orcish crew were moving crates and supplies, as well as replacing a sewer grate cover and repairing damaged rigging on the residential building. Borscha crossed the courtyard to the donkey attached to this rigging and fed him a cabbage. She then entered the residential quarters and knocked on the door where Romsca, Smelter of Ingots, and Romulus were sleeping.   Both awoke and spoke with Borscha. She let them know the intended carriages still had not arrived and asked for them to help make the Foundry ready. Romulus predicted the weather for the day using Druidcraft to assure Borscha the weather should be clear. Romsca paid her guild dues as it was the first day of a new month, and they discussed what would happen if she was still on the road for next month. Borscha directed them where they could be useful until the arrivals later on in the day.
Kelwin's Magical Toys and Concocted Wonders
Kelwin's Magical Toys and Concocted Wonders travelled northwards along the Orc Highway towards the city of Porgorag. Chaka rode on the back of the carriage keeping his eyes on the area around them, and Mortimr Gwathagoldrin rode under the cart with Ronpip.   Kelwin called out to them as they approached. They went forward and saw the Statue of Grupe at the southern entrance of the city. Chaka paused long enough to make a detailed drawing of the statue. Kelwin paid the wagon wheel tax to enter the city and led them to Second Square where Kelwin parked his shop.   Mortimr asked if he knew where the Darksteel Foundry was, which was listed on the job flyers they had. While they argued, musical notes played around them. Looking, they saw Ronpip who asked if they were leaving. They said goodbye and Ronpip told them, "Go be good wizards."   Chaka asked for directions and headed to the docks. Outside the entrance to the Darksteel Foundry were a group of aggitated onlookers heckling the staff inside. Chaka saw a singular, calm and cloaked figure looking into the facility. After taking note of the crowd, Chaka and Mortimr headed inside the Foundry.
The Amarth'rilain
On the Leviathan Sea, the Amarth'rilain approached Porgorag. Captain Aralee Goldfall ordered her crew make ready for port, then she asked Ilmendwyth if there was anything else he needed. She informed him the Amarth'rilain would be returning to Haradren Gaer Arnad as soon as they unloaded the cargo.   The ship pulled into the wooden docks of the Darksteel Foundry, and the crew began preparing to unload. They were quickly approached by Vitibuk, who boarded the ship. He had assumed this was the Provideniye and said there was no record of the Amarth'rilain's arrival. When he was corrected by Captain Aralee, he told Ilmendwyth to go sort it out with Borscha. He then started to curse at his staff to begin unloading the Amarth'rilain. Ilmendwyth took the ship manifest and went to seek out Borscha.
The Provideniye
On the Leviathan Sea, the Provideniye also sailed towards Porgorag. Captain Levka Ruslan approached Arwin, Gertrude Oathenhammer, and Demitri on deck. He appeared happy to be disembarking soon.   The Provideniye docked at the Darksteel Foundry. Quickly, Vitibuk approached and boarded. He rudely asked for the ship manifest and began getting his crew to unload this ship as well. Ruslan gathered the volunteers for the aid caravan, and the group of them were directed into the Foundry to seek out Borscha.
The Foundry's Courtyard
In the afternoon of 1 Adroth 5A 352, Romsca, Romulus, Chaka, Mortimr, Ilmendwyth, Gertrude, Arwin, and Demitri all gathered in the courtyard as Ruslan approached Borscha Brickwell. Ruslan took role for those that had come for the aid caravan, adding their names to his book. There were a total of twenty-four, including Ruslan. He also noted that there were no carriages for the supplies.   Mortimr asked what they were transporting. Ruslan said they had brought ore, slag, and coal, as well as textiles. Many of the boxes had the Hands of Ore symbol and the name Ashforge branded on them. There were also a few finer crafted crates among the pile. Arwin noted the black crate he and Gertrude had seen from Endor, the First Mountain. A male goliath seemed to be standing near to this box in particular. Ruslan said he did not know what were in the other boxes, which had come from the Amarth'rilain. The elven boxes had no symbology or iconography, seemingly by design.   Borscha informed them that the expected carriages arranged through the Coinguard had not arrived. They were supposed to have reached the Darksteel Foundry days ago, after they were finished with their previous job with the Yellow Quay. Borscha said she would be happy to store the goods for as long as was needed, but pressure would be put on the Foundry the longer it took to get going. She asked if Ruslan could spare some of the caravan volunteers to look into it, and Rulsan pointed out Romsca, Romulus, Chaka, Mortimr, Ilmendwyth, Gertrude, Arwin, and Demitri, saying they seemed "a bit more competent."   Ruslan and Borscha answered the party's questions about the town, the carriages, and the problem before them. Ruslan said they could get away with three carriages, but four would be best. Borscha said Coinguard Gim Gorod had previously been all for the Darksteel Foundry securing this caravan, but about four weeks ago he "changed his tune" and started trying to take the caravan contract away from the Hands of Ore.   Borscha provided a few potential solutions to the party: finding out what the holdup with the intended carriages at the Yellow Quay, securing new carriages through one of the stables in town, making an arrangement with another guild like the Hero Hunters, or making new carriages with the help of a woodworker.   Borscha described Gim Gorod as a good businessman but said he was "a bit skeezy". She didn't know what may have made him change his attitude about the caravan contract. Romsca said she wanted to see if she could "change the situation" involving Gim Gorod. If the caravan was taken away, it would be embarrassing for the Hands of Ore.   Romulus stepped aside to speak with Borscha, and he brought up the "incident" they had in the Foundry the day before. He asked if there was someone who might be able to analyze his sample, and she suggested the owner of the Yewberry Apothecary. During the talking, Arwin saw the vial and though he couldn't identify it clearly, it reminded him of demonblood.   Borscha needed to inventory the Armarth'rilain goods as well. She said if they could get their hands on some carts tonight, they could be leaving no earlier than tomorrow evening as a best-case scenario. Borscha she said they could probably hold the goods for a couple days before Gim Gorod put too much pressure on them.   Mortimr said it didn't make sense that elven goods were coming from Calen Estel for a Santeem Republic caravan, and Demitri agreed. The manifest said the goods were a gift for the "continued good graces" of Keeleon. Mortimr investigated the elven crates more and opened one up with the help of Romsca. Inside were elven textiles and bolts of cloth. He looked for a hidden bottom, but found nothing. Mortimr questioned Ilmendwyth, asking if he was from Calen Estel. Ilmendwyth said, "I come from many places." Then he offered to shake his hand and looked Ilmendwyth's hand over as he did.   With many questions left unanswered, the party decided to head out to the Yellow Quay and further into Porgorag to see what they could learn and do.
