Red Fang Chapter 22
“He doesn’t laugh anymore,” Avani said staring down at the baby in his cot. The room was warm with the fire well fed with logs. “Is he supposed to be this big? It’s only been a few days.”
“He’s healthy and happy,” Elise said as she filled a drawer with freshly laundered clothes. Without a maid to do the work Elise was having to do everything, and it occurred to her that she was the maid, not that the chores were any different to life in the temple. “But he’s so quiet. He’s stopped smiling at me.” Elise stopped what she was doing, her hand on the rim of the draw. “It’s the blessing isn’t it,” Avani said. “It made me feel like not talking as well.” “Father Aldwin said that the blessing was a precaution so that the king’s enemies can’t hurt you,” Elise said coming to stand next to Avani. The baby was awake and staring up at his mother, but his arms and legs were still. Avani placed her hand on his chest, but he didn’t react. If you'd like to read this as an ebook or paperback, please follow the links.
