Red Fang Chapter 32
A thin stone bridge cut across the gorge, cutting the star-filled sky in half. It was pitch black at the bottom but for a pool of light spilling from a torch set in the wall. The flickering light played over a lone guard dozing on his feet, his spear resting against the cliff face.
The boat glided silently through the water and Davey leapt from the prow before it bumped into the docks, pulling on the line and holding the boat steady while Samuel clambered over. “Hold, you can’t be here!” the guard said fumbling for his spear. “These are the royal docks. Only the king can land here.” “Of course, we can,” Samuel said cheerfully as he stomped towards the man. “Got business with the castle.” “What business?” the guard said loudly with the spear firmly in his grasp as he peered at the boat and its crew of armed men. Boris vaulted over the side and the guard nearly dropped his weapon as he backed into the gate. “We just returned from running down a couple of priests that escaped from Bend Town. Thought you might like them for the burning tomorrow?”If you'd like to read this as an ebook or paperback, please follow the links.
