Thornfire was at first just assigned to Ivis for training purposes, but with the sudden threat of Vexx attacking out of nowhere, they just kind of stuck together. The relationship at first was rocky, as Ivis was dismissive and rude to dragons in general. Thornfire passive agressive got back at him by taking over the top maneuvers while they were flight training, to try and scare him. However, when Vexx attacked, they put their differences aside quickly, and since Thornfire was really the only other dragon there at the time in that place, since Vailstrym got injured, the both of them started working together.
