The Goblin Boss

by Thomas Tallfellow

Realizing there was no chance for a stealthy attack, Ruby entered the chamber where she discovered a handful of goblins guarding what had to be their boss at the far end of the room. There was also the muffled sounds of what the party surmised to be villagers coming from an unseen alcove at the far corner of the chamber. Not knowing how many goblins remained in the cave complex, Ruby attempted to bargain with the goblin leader for the release of all the prisoners and the jewels from the crown in exchange for the necklace Thomas was able to smuggle from Nightstone and allowing the goblins to keep their lives. It was a week bargaining position for the party and despite Ruby's smooth talking and golden tongue, the goblin boss was not willing to part with anything more than 1 villager. Noticing that Ruby was making no headway with the negotiations, the party grew restless, believing a fight was forthcoming. Thomas used his small size and nimbleness to push his way past the party and into the chamber. The fight was on!

Arrows flew from Thomas' bow as well as several of the goblins. The goblin leader tossed a bag of powder at the party which magically incapacitated the twin sisters. Fortunately, they were easily roused and rejoined the battle quickly. That wasn't the only trick up the boss' sleeve, however. He continued to toss bags at party members which burst in bright light, temporarily blinding the struck hero. Thomas used his cunning, stealth and nimbleness to stay out of harms way while launching arrows at the goblin guards trying to keep their attention away from his companions. Few arrows managed to find their mark though, so the goblins paid little attention to Thomas. That is until Ruby and Jade were struck unconscious. At that point, the battle looked bleak as Prax was also severely injured by the time one of the goblin guards rounded the corner into the tunnel Thomas was using as cover. This forced Thomas to drop his bow and draw his two short swords. This both surprised and distracted the goblin enough that his attack towards Thomas went astray giving Thomas the opportunity to deliver a mortal blow to his foe. Sheathing the swords and taking up the bow once again, Thomas turned the corner and his aim was now true and none to soon! A goblin guard stood above the incapacitated Ruby, about to deliver a killing blow when Thomas' arrow flew directly through the open mouth of the goblin, penetrated through the back of the throat and pinned him to the wall. There was still little hope for victory, but the tables were about to turn. Apparently the twins both have a knack for shrugging off unconsciousness in the midst of battle. No one in the chamber expected to see Jade leap to her feet and strike a devastating blow to the goblin leader, drawing his attention from the seriously wounded Prax. That's all it took for Prax to deal the final blow to the goblin leader as Thomas finished picking off the goblin guards. Once again, the party managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Now it was time to free some villagers.
