Maxwell Boulder's Story

by Thomas Tallfellow

After collecting the prize purse and departing the Giddy Gnome, the party discussed what they had learned to this point. Thomas relayed that Maxwell Boulder intends to meet with the party at the Brewhaus, so they made their way to their temporary residence. Upon arriving at the tavern, they found Maxwell waiting for them, with a table already secured in a secluded corner. The party agreed to join Maxwell at his table where he explained the reason he had to lay undercover didn't have as much to do with the illegal fighting club, but more to do with people being controlled and manipulated magically and that he had traced that to Punetazo. Unfortunately, Punetazo was able to work his magic upon Maxwell before Maxwell could bring him to justice. Maxwell feels that he was under Punetazo's influence for at least a couple of weeks. It was at this point that Thomas showed the letter from the king summoning Cornelius Doolan and explained that Maxwell was to be their point of contact in the Dwarven Isles to help them find Cornelius. Maxwell only knew that Cornelius was on an archaeological expedition on an unsettled island in the archipelago that was only inhabited by tribes of Lizard Folk. After inquiring as to why the king required Cornelius, Maxwell must have felt the mission of utmost importance as he stated he would accompany the party to the island. It was agreed that the party would spend the next day acquiring supplies and securing passage for the next phase of their mission and all would meet on the second morning to depart for the island.

That night, all four party members simultaneously had the same dream Morprax and Ruby had after they had rescued the Nightstone hostages. It was a bright corona - much like a total eclipse - with an unidentifiable figure in front of it. However, based on Morprax's and Ruby's description of the dream, it appears the figure was closer in this newest dream. Whatever it was that chose Ruby and Morprax has now expanded it's grasp to include the other two original party members as well as the two newest members.

The morning after the fight - and the strange dreams - found the party deciding to split up to acquire the needed supplies. They also discovered that in addition to the 2,000gp there were also 5 of the red magical coins in their loot. This excited the group and they agreed to make a trip to the Diner at the Edge of the Universe after they reconvened at the Brewhaus later that afternoon. It was decided Bob and Thomas would go collect Thomas wager winnings and secure passage at the docks while Eebrock and Jade shopped for potions and expedition supplies.

At the recommendation of Dewy, Thomas and Bob made their way to the docks in search of the ship The Investigator and her captain Spruce Greentree. It didn't take long to find the ship and captain and after some discussion it was decided that he would shuttle the party where they wished to go and return to bring them back when the party's silver raven delivered the message as to when and where they'd be. All parties being pleased with the arrangements, they bade their farewells and returned to the Brewhaus.

Meanwhile, Jade and Eebrock made their way to the alchemist shop where they purchased healing potions and supplies for Eebrock to craft healing potions during some down time. They also found a shop to purchase some new and upgraded expedition supplies as well as a gem store where Eebrock purchased a gem to place an enchantment upon.

When the party reunited at the Brewhaus activated the box to send them to the Diner at the Edge of the Universe, where Paul Hawkgaze happily met them, seeming pleased to see that there were four of them this time. He presented them with a platter of various magical wares. Having 5 coins to spend, the party had some tough decisions to make. There was a throwing hammer of healing as well as a potions belt that would allow the wearer to quickly draw and imbibe a potion without infringing upon their ability to take other actions in combat. Both of these items cost 3 coins each, so only one could be chosen. Of the other items presented, a magical quiver of holding for 2 coins piqued the party's interest. This quiver allows the bearer to carry an innumerable amount of ammunition as well as create up to 10 special pieces of ammo that dealt specialty damage in addition to normal damage. After some deliberation the party decided to purchase the quiver and the potion belt. Thomas will bear the quiver being the ranged attack specialist and Jade will wear the potions belt being the front line defender that requires the most healing without disengaging from combat.
